Is this normal it does have a small air tank attached please advice.

Check under your seat if that is where the mini 12V air compressor is. It may have an on/ off rocker switch. Just switch it off. Switch it back on to inflate your air bags as and when required.
Keep an eye on your bag pressures on regular basis.

It suggests you might have a small air leak, soapy water time .me thinks

Do you have pressure gauges on the dash? or a just single one?, if so the pressure should be visible for both LH & RH sides. Is it Air Assist (leaf Spring) rather than full blown air suspension?
If Air Assist there is no way that I know of in setting an auto adjust pressure setting, you would need to be normally adjusted manually, so need more info on your type of air suspension.
As Geo suggests, if pressure drops check for air leaks on all connections, and pipework, the 12V feed to the compressor is normally switched manually to inflate the airbags to desired pressures, so I am confused.

Need more info, is it 2C or full 4C air suspension or just air asist?
A lot of the cheaper air asisit systems don't have a tank so any adjustment to ride height it will cut in. Cutting in every time the ignition is turned on sounds like a leak.

The system is a Dunlop Air assist and has a small air tank included in the package

But I think you are right there could be a leak between compressor and tank will get my soapy water out later

The system seems to be holding the pressure OK

Does it turn off after a minute or so ?
I had a ambulance and that turned on automatically if it senced low pressure

Yes that's what mine does, always when first starting, runs for about 3 or four minutes then stops, I have never noticed it come on again no matter how far we go, but if I switch off and on again it will kick up again.
Never been any trouble and passed three mot while like it.

Could it be that the air in the system gets warm when running and cools off when stopped? The pressure would drop a little and need to be topped-up. (But where does that air go?)

Ours blows off when it stops, but it is proper ambulance stuff so probably different than motorhome.

If the system comes with a compressor, I assume that it's expecting to need to adjust the pressure and must have some means of relieving captured air.

Mine was run / turned on by relays (3) and you could lower it and stiffen it . I had it for above eight year's trouble free, apart from 1 relay.👍
