Does anyone really know the reason why we need an AHC to travel with a pet to Europe? What was wrong with the 20 ish years of Pet Passports except that UK vets do not make enormous amounts of money from them?
I understand that Euro Pet Passports are the answer but why all the bother? It all seems as daft as the human testing procedures from Europe.

Yes ……. it is because of Br*x*t. We are no longer part of the EU and therefore have to abide by the requirements for all ‘third countries’ which means obtaining an AHC to get your pet into Europe.

Once in Europe you can set about obtaining an EU pet passport so that you don’t need AHCs in the future.

Yes, I can see that but why then does the UK only let you return within 4 months? What has that got to do with Europe.
Also, is the AHC checked on entry to Shengen? I have not heard whether this happens or not.

You can get a new AHC / certificate from an EU vet to extend past 4 month's.
And yes AHC are checked before you are allowed to board on the way out and back.
Or your old UK pet passport if its still valid, can be used to return to the UK

AHCs are dual-language. They need to be in English and the language of whatever country you are arriving into. Usually it's France, but if you intend to go direct to Spain, Netherlands etc you need the appropriate language version.
