So how come Vets for Pets and other Vets in our area charge £219/dog for one of these PLUS £35/dog for a rabies shot when you can go on line and order the paperwork plus a confirmatory microchip scan for each dog at £99 for 1st dog and £30/dog for up to 4 more from Animalhealthcertificatesoline in Folkestone?
We are on/in the Chunnel at 9.50am a few Saturdays from now, I’ll leave home in Liverpool around 9am with the 2 dogs and get to Folkestone around 3pm and collect the AHC’s. Kathryn doesn’t finish work until 1pm on Fridays, so she’s getting the train to Folkestone Central cost £90 arriving 6pm ish (AHConline shuts at 6pm Friday and reopens Saturday at 10am) and we’ll still save the price of an AHC from Vets for Pets.
Shouldn’t there be some kind of Government mandate that an AHC should cost a maximum amount? Say £99/dog?
Vets seem to be profiteering from this. £219 to scan a microchip that’s already in the dog and do a bit of computer bashing seems like an egregious amount of money to charge, it’s dearer than a UK human passport!! Outrageous!!

Rant over!

Cheers!

I think UK vets have seen an opportunity to cash in on fallout from leaving the EU.
Whilst the vets on Folkestone have seen an opportunity to streamline the AHC paperwork and provide a slick efficient service on a larger scale and at a competitive price.
So good for them 👍
Just make sure you get your eu pp's whilst across the water.

If you shop around you can find vets that do it cheaper. I had ours done locally for £100.

Couldn't agree more. Just be careful as the vets in Folkestone we are using closses at 2pm on Saturdays.

Wherever dogs are concerned there will be people out to fleece you, my dad always said some vets will extract thousands out of you for treatment knowing full well the dog will probably die.

Why are they scanning it? They don't bother here, just fill in the PP & only do it when I ask & foc. I just like to make sure where it exactly is as I normally have to do the scan at the port, & to make sure that it is actually working!
You can buy your own scanner cheap enough on line.

We no longer have a dog buy our vet charged a lot less than the figures quoted last time. Why would the government be interested if they were they could probably have negotiated for us to stay in the EU pet passport scheme.

Agreed there is profiteering going on. But, part of the issue is there is a shortage of vets and some of the existing vets think its a waste of their time and expertise. So like builders, they raise the price to put people off, but if customers are willing to pay it, happy days.

I travelled down from Liverpool last week and collected my AHC from Abbeywell vets. I travelled down the day before and stayed at Canterbury P and R overnight (£6). Picked AHC up at 10am Saturday morning (took 5 minutes) and was on the Chunnel at 11:50.
