Could raise the dish because of the wind ( outside the van not inside ;-) ) . Would a decent portable free view type arial work out as a back up ? What do the funsters do ?

Probably too windy for an Oyster type dish to be raised at the moment, depending on where you are.
I use a Moonraker powered aerial for use when the Oyster doesn`t work (usually trees blocking line of sight)
A narowboater put me onto the Moonraker and I`ve found it works very well for picking up freeview.
Bought off ebay for about £40

Status or Glomex Omni-directional freeview Aerial ?
The new Status Aerials don't have the pointy pinnacle on top anymore so you can put a cover over the van without puncturing the cover.

Sorry I don’t understand about the pointy pinnacle comment ?

We have a dome so no problem , but our Hymer also has an inbuilt terrestrial aerial which gives a choice .

We found the Avtex STH3000 aerial less then £40.00 gave good reception stuck to the inside of a window gave good reception when it was too windy to raise the dish.

Why bother with data so cheap now easier to use streaming.
Having said that our Hymer has a small whip aerial on the roof which gives superb reception & our little Snipe dish works in all weather's.

Never used the dish. OK once or twice always stream tv. In fact maybe one of the jobs this summer will be to take dish off altogether.

I bought this for when trees are in the way, works not as good as Avtex but a lot smaller.

We use an Avtex in the van when the dish can't be used. As stated at only £40 it's a good fall back.

That’s excellent thanks to all

Yip, had ours up at the weekend during Ciara to watch the rugby. Wished I hadn't bothered!:(
