Good morning,
We still have an older model Avtex TV which we purchased in 2007 and it’s been stored in our garage for the last few years gathering dust! It has hardly been used and is still in excellent condition but obviously it was manufactured prior to all the digital changeovers etc. The DVD works perfectly but we cannot tune into any channels via just the status aerial and we’ve been informed it will need some kind of external digital tuner or something. Can anyone advise us what we need and if we’ve been given the correct advice etc. Don’t want to throw it away if it could be still used as it cost around £500 when new. I know TVs have come down in price but still seems wasteful to just take it down the tip if someone else could make use of it.

Try it and do a factory re-set / retune.. It should work and get some of the channels.
HOWEVER the standard has changed since this was made so some channels and /or features may not work. They may be something you dont want or need..

At worst case you can buy a new FREEVIEW set top box and plug that into the TV and use that to receive all channels and services. BUT check what connections are on the TV. Older sets use SCART, newer sets have HDMI.. Some TV's are equiped with both but some set top freeview boxes may only be the newer HDMI fitting...

Thank you Tonka,

We will ill try the reset as you suggest and see what happens.

The TV only has SCART but do you know if there are any SCART to HDMI cables we can buy to resolve this issue?

Sue

Just get a cheap free view box .
This one will record as well . It has a scart connection

There are still set top boxes with scart outputs. Search ebay, Argos and even places like Asda. Just check connections before you buy. Also consider how you will run it, off EHU or 12v. BUT Try the TV first.
