I’m a Newbie
Hi Guys
We are about to advertise our Hymer b774. We are going to live abroad and the cost and hassle of reregistering it means it makes sense to buy again over there.
As we have never sold a motorhome before I would appreciate any advice, especially regarding handling the financial transaction safely but also what might be good to include when advertising.

Would it be worth calling a few dealers first to see what they offer ??
Seem's to be a shortage of vans and prices paid for them are going up if all the threads are to be believed.
Nothing to loose and maybe a fast, secure sale. Sell any accessories seperate. (y)
Plus will give you a ball park idea on where to aim on price if you do sell private.

I can't help with how or where to advertise but take your buyer to the bank and get them to do a bank transfer into your account and then move the money to one of your linked accounts.

A genuine buyer will be happy to do this.

We have sold vehicles through an agent in the past (commission sales) but you need to really really trust the person selling on your behalf.

Just smiffy had a very good summary of his van in classified I thought to give you an idea. I bought mine privately and it was fine but I had a few restless nights! We paid by bank transfer on the day having checked with the bank before. I think there was a limit so had to split it into two payments.
Good luck
Paddy

Yes, Tonka, we did contact dealers a couple of months ago and the offer was pretty good and definitely a lot less hassle. I thought perhaps that I could get more then they would pay me and it was worth a go.

Yes, there was one that OH spoke to where that might be the deal, ie commission sale. Perhaps I should chase them up and clarify how they work. Thanks

We bought it privately and I think we got a very good deal. Guy who did the hab check reckoned it was worth 20 percent more then we paid.
Really nice guy and he’d been scammed himself when buying a motorhome, lost thousands.
I was a little bit anxious about parting with ££££s that why I’m asking now. My bank also contacted me about what I was doing .

Interested in this topic and the good advice, some of which I don't understand...... If you have a bank transfer into your account... why do you then need to transfer to another account.... surely once in your account it can't be sucked back out ????? What scams are there that can lose you money ????... maybe my mrs is right when she says I shouldn't be allowed out on my own !!!!!

We've sold a couple of cars on commission. One we were scammed as they said a whole load of work needed doing to bring it up to standard and we were too young and green to know any better. The second time round a local garage put the car on their forecourt with a note saying they were selling on behalf of a customer and they had serviced it for the last x years. They took a small commission and we also arranged a warranty through them (no claim ensued) and that worked out well for us - money for very little work for them so win-win-win. They also still service that car.

Just in case the money transferred into your account is later claimed back as a fraudulent transaction. I don't know if that actually happens or is an urban myth but it's something I would do just in case.

I've bought from motor home depot and they seem a very professional setup so might be worth a try

In my time on this forum I have sold two vans and bought two, all from and to funsters. Buying from a funster gives you a little information on the van from their past posts, they may have given info on it or maybe have had some problems or additions...
it gives you a sense of security... selling to a funster gives you a certain amount of security but you will worry that something might go wrong with the van and then your on their ignore list...😆

We have purchased privately, brought from a dealer in Germany and purchased from a dealer in UK. All ok.
I have sold privately, commission with a dealer and used Motorhome Depot. I do not enjoy selling privately. People want to steal your motorhome. You advertise on eBay and have lots of watchers. Your advert expires and then lots of contacts to see if it is still for sale and would you take £££.
So, in future, we will not try to sell privately.

We sold our burstner back to the dealer. Happy with the price, hassle free and quick. Might be worth trying. Looks like they’re short of stock now.

Simon-Alan Kerr might be worth contacting, he’s a member on here and a dealer. Might save you an awful lot of hassle. Not far from you really either.

I've sold two mhs through Motorhomedepot (a broker) and it has been an easy but not cheap experience. They handle all the advertising, telephone calls, viewings, negotiation, offer buyers part exchange and can arrange finance.

It is (I think) a franchise type of affair so the service you receive might depend on the individual operating in your area. Also be aware the buyer's money goes to MHD before being passed on immediately to you. Not saying these things are problems but it surprised me the first time around.

As I said earlier, its not a cheap service but tbh I think they achieved a better price than I would have done which goes some way to paying the commission. What is certain I netted many thousands of pounds more than my dealer wanted to pay, even in these stock shortage times.

We just sold our old van on Facebook marketplace..went in two weeks with around 800 views, and around 10 people interested In it. Free for the add and no commission to pay. Everyone’s a winner. 👍
