Hello, We are looking to buy a motorhome in the next few weeks!!! If anyone could offer us both any advice, tips or anything else we need to consider! we would be very grateful.
We would love a island large bed with a fairly large shower to as my husband is a large rugby man x

We need to know that you can drive over 3500kg and how big you want to go, then new or used and how much do you want or are you prepared to spend?

Lastly you say "in the next few weeks" I would say don't rush it or you will get something wrong.

Hi Newbies and welcome,
we were in your position a few weeks ago, for £15 subscribe for a year, its worth it, you can then down load the motorhome guide mentioned above, read that and then ask as many questions as you want.
the peeps on here are very friendly and very knowledgeable.

have fun checking out the various styles and layouts

Be careful buying from a dealer offering a warranty. You could be forever driving to and fro.My new motorhome had within 2 weeks 14 "snags" that took a year to rectify as parts had to be resourced from the manufacturer and now 5 years later I reckon on having to have driven over the Pennines around 20 times.

Personally I would now go private making sure the paperwork is up to date and habitations checks are 100% ok

Layout is everything........ that is what you need to be very happy with. 2nd is weight / payload..

I can second what Phill D said, layout is everything, at first we thought we would put up with whatever layout we had , (not being that fussy) but it soon dawned on us that you cant change the layout once you buy and you have to live with what you've got, we opened the door of some motorhomes we looked at and closed them without even going in, we could never put up with the decor, then when we did go in, try the beds, can you both get out to use the loo without disturbing the other, get in the shower and go through the motions, same with the toilet, I cant recall how many pretend showers Ive had,
when you find one that ticks all your boxes you'll know if its right for you, we were lucky it didnt take us that long ( about 50 odd viewings)

we think we've picked the perfect van for us but only time will tell

good luck

Go with what your heart tells you as long as you have thought through what you might like. If you think you need a Merc engine you don’t as Fiat is just as good, cheaper servicing and more accessible. 4 wheel drive think again unless you have very specific requirements. Ditto an American RV - size isn’t everything. Don’t be small minded either as the VW Camper has associations of a Californian lifestyle which is great if you are 25 otherwise living in a tight space might be a big compromise. We hired in New Zealand and Australia which helped us define what we thought was important but then we changed our views completely. If you get it wrong, and you might, change it.

hello and welcome.
It’s very important to get the correct layout but just as important to consider the payload available because if you haven’t got enough of that you will struggle to carry all that you want and don’t forget payload includes any extra bits an pieces fitted to the van such as extra batteries solar panels gas cylinders satellite dishes tow bar spare wheel (as lots of vans don’t have one) good luck with your quest and ask as many questions as you like everyone will try to help if they can?
Island beds are nice but do limit storage space such as Size of garage etc.

Hi and welcome, as folk have said layout is important so make sure you know what you want to do with the van. Once it's possible look at loads and imagine yourself sitting in there on a wet winter night, even sit on the toilet to make sure you fit as someone once reported they bought a van and couldn't close the loo door when sitting down, Get your other half to stand in the shower and try bending down as if washing his feet as some can be tight.
