It is difficult to cancel the door open alarm when there are two bikes hanging on the bike rack fixed to the rear door of my Fiat Adria van. Even a hefty closing bang doesn't always deactivate the alarm. Because of this problem we haven't taken our bikes on our last two 90 day trips to France and Spain. A towbar swing out bike carrier would answer the problem but these are very expensive. Someone from the Netherlands we met along the Loire earlier in the year suggested that the answer is to find the the alarm wire, cut it, and add a remote switch. I would be happy to deactivate the alarm completely. I have found the wires in the rear door but there are four of them, two thin and two thick. A clamp meter shows that the two thin wires are carrying a small current whether the alarm is showing on the dash board display or not. Could someone please suggest which wires I should join to isolate the alarm.

I have now investigated this further. The two thick wires operate the door lock, the two thin wires are the door open alarm sensor wires. I found the thin wires inside the van in the wiring loom in the drivers side rear door pillar heading towards the roof. I have inserted a switch in one of the wires and can now have the alarm active or disabled.

Nice one , nothing to do with the van I have but really decent of you to post the solution to the problem , so many posts go no further ,someone gives a potential answer and possible solution to an problem with no idea if it worked or not.
