Has anybody fitted any of the following themselves;

1) Dual Cylinder LPG with Crash protection,
2) Wifi Unit

Reason I ask is I would like to add these to my home. However being in Essex there is not really anyone local that does it, and I would have to travel. Issue is I appreciate I will have likely a 3-4 hour drive, so will most likely have to travel day before and stay overnight, get vehicle booked in and occuppier myself for a few hours before driving home. So with the time and costs etc I was wondering if I could do it myself. My only issue is the MH will be new so I am concerned about warranties. My dealership fit GASLOW and want £300 more than I have researched, claiming workshop cost . They also stated that can not allow another fitter on site due to insurance reasons. Your thoughts, experience etc would really be appreciated......

Thanks

Yes (no crash protection bit pointless if you ask me not many vans fitted with it as standard)
Yes
tow bar and electrics, solar panels, battery to battery charger, aux power sockets, aux gas points, 240v inverter, battery montoring systems and a hell of a lot more all DIY

Save even more money and fit a Gas-it system. bought mine on line delivered next day.
Its so easy you will wonder about the cost of fitting, and realise its all a right rip off.

and my van was brand new, and your dealer will find lots and lots more to disqualify your warranty on than a self fitted gaslow system I bet!

Do you have any advice of best way to approach instructions / guidance. Was thinking about a second leisure battery and inverter etc, but think I need to do a little at a time. As said my biggest concern / worry is interfering with gas and electric and it being used as an excuse to invalidate warranty ....

Just about everyone has these, and solar is the way to go. Just go buy the stuff you need and fit it. Get stuck? ask on here or search the net.

Worried re warranty? Ask your dealer. (wonder what the response will be?..............)

Already have solar panel. I may just go for it.

I thought the Truma bulkhead regulator with crash protection and anti- rupture hoses was either standard or an option on all vans for quite a few years.

I am having standard / normal GASLOW bottles 2x 11 kg installed, but according to spec the Crash Protection is optional. So I’ll have to check when I collect it...... But from what dealer said when I was their ‘ you can’t run gas system when driving’ leads me to believe there is no crash protection.

Hiya, welcome to the fun house. ?

You can fit the gas kit yourself, it's not difficult at all and there are plenty of threads on here about doing it, the only difficult thing is where to place the filler, ie are you are brave enough to cut a hole in your MH? It shouldn't invalidate the warranty if you don't put it somewhere silly ... like in the roof!

As for wifi, you can fit wifi antennas but you're then reliant on others to provide the network, so I'd go for a mifi unit (with a sim in it) with an aerial if needed (you many not require one so try it first), or if you have data on your phone, see how you get on with that first. With a mifi if you want to go and sit in the shade somewhere with your tablet etc at least you can take it with you, with a wifi this wouldn't be so easy.

I suppose the question is do you WANT to run any gas kit whilst travelling anyway? Some do, but it's quite rare, we've MHed since 1996 and have never used any gas appliances intentionally when on the move (in the past we've forgotten to turn the fridge to 12v on odd occasions but that's not the same thing).

You'll save so much that IF you have have a warranty issue turned down it won't matter.

It seems to be standard fit on the Swift I think it is on my compact line as well but that could be aftermarket.

The point is that you don't have to bother turning it off to travel

If you are looking for one place which fit everything try John Cross Motorhomes, they are south of London but are well known on this Forum and have a good reputation.

Removed our two refillable bottles outside the showroom and put them in the new Motorhome it’s not a difficult job. Inverter is just a case of connecting a couple of thick cables to the battery. You will not be touching the MH wiring. Fitting a second battery is much the same. You possibly need a battery box unless provision is already there or just put in two large 6v batteries and connect them in series to give you 12v.

True, but most people turn it off so it depends on how they intend to use the MH and what they prefer to do, leave it on or turn it off.

I don't, why would I? I have had secumotion with pipes with rupture stops for 8 years and only ever turn it off on the tunnel ( because they insist) and 3 years ago went for Alugas which makes it even safer IMHO

UK people are programmed to have Gaslow but Alugas is seriously better, and you can remove the handling rings if you re tight on space.

Ok its more expensive but buy right and buy once.

MinxyGirl. Thanks. My only concern is the fitting of the filler point and drilling holes in the MotorHome. I am some what very apprehensive more so re damaging it cos never done it before. I am looking at MiFi. I have unlimited data on a tablet but I understand MiFi are more powerful .....

If you are planning travelling in really cold weather running the heating while driving is far better than arriving with a cold van, plus it will stop your water dumping if the temperature around the dump valve drops too low, plus you will have hot water. And finally you don't have to go out in the cold to turn the gas on when you arrive or are ready to leave.

Other than weight saving why is Alugas any better than Gaslow or Gasit?

In a serious crash where the heavy gas bottles will end up could be the big safety question. Secumotion may have a limited part to play when the whole structure disintegrates.

We travel with gas bottle valve closed because we have no need for gas during the journey.

Minxy Girl from Ive just read Alugas are CE Approved and it appears their valves come with built Rupture protection ( crash protection ) built in. However no facility to turn off gas from inside Cab. Maybe the Truma solenoid would be an addition. But question I need to ask. Does CE Approved make much difference or is it either necessary ???

Put them side by side you will soon see.

So I have looked at the 3 different brands that offer a dual cylinder 11 Kg LPG system. GAS IT, GASLOW and ALUGAS.

ALUGAS are CE Approved and come with a multi valve which includes Rupture Protection and stainless steel pigtails (apparantly longer life) as standard at a cost of £635.00 + fitting.

GAS IT are £555.00 and would require additional TRUMA DUO COMFORT at £180.00 plus 2 filters at £70.00. Total of £815 + fitting.

GASLOW are £635.00 also require TRUMA DUE COMFORT at £180 pluse 2 filters at £70.00. Total of £885.00 plus fitting...

You are talking rubbish most vans have this nowadays and it’s not pointless it could save lives, please don’t state things you obviously know nothing about.?
