Here's an easy one for the electrical gurus. I would like to add some USB sockets to the habitation side of my Hymer A-class.

1. Should I wire them to one of the two habitation batteries?

2. If so, directly or via an in-line fuse?

3. Via a free slot on the EBL 29? If so, do I have to remove the EBL to get access to the terminals?

Thanks, Keith

I have 10 additional usb sockets in my van ( i know overkill but it wisnae me) they are wired via a small added fuse box and then to the leisure battery bank. That way if anything goes wrong the fuse will save your wiring

I've wired the two additional USB and 12v cigarette charges to the leisure batteries directly but all have a inline fuse and I carry lots of tat and stuff in the garage (fuses)

It works for me and the dometic fridge cfx

I've also got a battery monitor on so I can check them individually

Don't know what model your m/h is but one of our overbed led spotlights failed so I changed them both for new with a USB socket, saved all the rewiring.

I always wire mine back to spare outputs on the EBL there are usually a couple of spares just look at the diagram. The pins that fit the connectors are for Mate'N'Lock connectors. You only have to get at where the connectors plug in.
You should find some spares in Block 5 & Block 8, I think Block 5 is permanently live and Block 8 is switched via the control panel. You may need to change the fuse of the output you use to suit the cable you use.

Great, thanks for the quick replies. I’ll go the EBL route if i can find Mate’N’Lock connectors. I do have spare Molex pins which may be similar.

Tam, you’re not alone. I have 10 USB sockets in my plane. Enough to overheat the voltage regulator!

You can wire them into a spare circuit from the EBL. For example 'Spare 5' or 'Spare 6', which feed from the 15-way connector, Pins 4 (+) and Pin 11 (-), or Pin 1 (+) and Pin 5(-). Insert a fuse in the Spare5 or Spare6 slot to allow power to the positive. So, no need for an inline fuse.

On the 15-way connector, pin 1 is labelled (lower left) and so is pin 3. Pin4 is above pin1, and the numbers then follow that sequence. You could double-check with a meter that the fuse enables the positive power.

The connector is an MnL (Mate'n'Lok) type, available from auto electrics suppliers like 12VoltPlanet or Altec Automotive. The pins are separate from the shells, you crimp a pin onto a wire, and push it into the shell until it locks with a click. The pins are available separately, but probably only in packets of 100. It may be cheaper to buy a 2-way or 4-way connector which come with separate pins.

The connectors, including the 15-way one, just pull out, while squeezing the locking clips top and bottom to release them.

That’s great, any pictures and a link to where you got them from.

Cheers bigears 👍🏻😀

But from your Avatar the planes only big enough for the 2 of you 😀😁

Great I want to do similar and on my EBL119 block 5 and block 8 shows spares. Does anyone have the link to the correct connectors ?
