Whilst attending the overland & adventure show over the Jubilee weekend at Stratford racecourse I came across a stand promoting a police supported caravan and motorhome ID and registration scheme which is FREE to register and free to access once you’ve signed up to be a member
The only cost is for the supply of a vinyl graphic of your individual registration No which comes in any colour for about £6 and attaches to a visible area of your unit
As members if you see a unit on the road with a registration graphic displayed and the driver looks suspicious or unit appears in an inappropriate location you put the registration into the app on your phone and if reported stolen the details will come up allowing you to call police
The police also have access to the scheme which is part of the secured by design scheme and run by retired police officers
I was quite impressed and signed up on the day, what else do you get these days initially for free

Tried to attach a photo of the leaflet without success

It looks like it's a reasonable idea. The issue is that it needs to be big enough to make a difference. Given that most of their website appeared over a few days in July 2021 and not much has happened since, it doesn't look like its gone supercritical yet.

Unfortunately I look really uspicious
There could be lots of false alarms.

I would think that if I nicked a motorhome, one of the first things would be to change the number plates.

Little acorns and all that, perhaps as a group it would be good if the funsters supported were able to give it our backing
The personal registration is a vinyl graphic sticker which mounts high on the rear or side of your unit and is difficult to remove, I realised these can be overcome but it’s one of those things that might deter a theft as another unit that’s not so protected is an easier target
Every little helps, it costs nowt

I think it's probably a very good initiative - how many of us have had issues relating to theft of the entire vehicle?

I know that breaking and entering can certainly be an issue and have installed a small slider bar on the door to try and take care of that myself.

These are biiig and valuable pieces of kit, so is there a trend to try and make off with newer vehicles?

No, they hope to be international…….

‘Although CaravanID is based in the UK, we recognise that many of our members tour mainland Europe, likewise, many Europeans visit the UK. Our goal is to create a unified, international register that ensures quick, accurate and free identification and protection to all owners wherever you are.’
