Annual renewal notice in, been with them since 2014, and as usual phoned them to pay and just double check cover as last year I discovered my wife wasn't covered to be repatriated if things went wrong so increased to family cover.

Just off the phone to them though and the girl tells me that they have changed terms and we now would only be covered for breakdown if in Germany but not the rest of Europe unless we had a German residency address. I did say if they were sending the renewal letter to a Belfast address it was a fairly safe bet I did not live in Germany!

Since we are heading to Venice in 5 weeks we will be in quite a few countries other than Germany and since our Laika is 4.2 ton ADAC were one of the few who would cover us.

Has anybody else been told this or heard if this is correct or not. Did try to phone back to speak to someone else but as after 6 o clock their time so office seemed to be shut.

I have also just renewed, but wasn't made aware of the changes that you mention, so when I get back home, I'll phone them to enquire. We have the Partner Plus cover.

Thanks for the "heads up" Bryan. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

That's a new one on me, got my renewal notice through 2 weeks ago, tried to ring head office 3 times but got engaged signal. Then I remembered my insurance company(safeguard) cover me for Europe. Phoned to confirm & yes full breakdown cover & repatriation. Bye Bye ADAC.Result.:)(y)

I know that the terms that you mention apply to members who are not resident in EU or EEA countries. They sent out a letter to that effect, last year and lost a lot of their Swiss members as a result.
Maybe the person you spoke to thought we had already Brexited?

I don’t believe that this is correct, however I have sent an email asking the question.

Scare over folks! Spoke to another girl this morning and the the Germany only cover is just if you are a basic member. Despite telling the girl yesterday we were ADAC Plus members and it must have shown on her screen when I wanted to pay, she was quoting basic members benefits. Full Europe and repatriation for Plus members.

Despite this will look at Safeguard insurance for next year if they give cover in Northern Ireland and are close to Dolmans £300.

Endorsement for Safeguard breakdown from me.

We are 3850kg and have had needed 2 call-outs - tyre blow-out and oil pressure transmitter.

Both times efficient response from their call centre in France with fluent English, who double checked carefully our location, and help arrived from ADAC within the hour.

Difficult wheel change on hard shoulder with a camber, which needed the guy to jury-rig two jacks. Not a job I would or could have attempted myself.

Proof of the pudding etc......

In last 3-4 years Safeguard premiums have only gone up a few quid a year. For over 3.5t and no height restriction on European breakdown cover I think they are hard to beat, even with lower premium and separate breakdown cover.

Just paid for my Adac Plus membership and it was around £98, Plus membership also includes my wife as well. Just had a look and it’s €109

The Partner Plus Membership is €109, so it sounds like that is what you've got, ie, the best.

Cheers,

Jock. :)
