So, normally fill up from a local garage that has a Adblue pump on the forecourt (seems a rarity) normally costs around £20.
Was heading down the M5 this morning on the way to a weekend in North Devon, and Ping, the Adblue light came on. So, knowing that you get a good few miles before anything harmful happens, thought that I would call into a garage and get 10 litres to top up, just to be on the safe side.
Pulled into the Shell garage as you pull off the M5 at Bridgewater, purchased said bottle and duly put it into the tank. Started engine again and light now out and onwards with the journey.
Wife then told me how much I’d just paid for said bottle when checking receipt.
£39-50 🙈 and only 10 litres, not even a full fill up!
My own fault for letting it get low, lesson learned👍

How long does a tank full last and can you just top it up as and when you feel like it.

I normally get around 4,500 miles before I need to fill up. Had done 4,300 miles since the last fill up when the light came on today👍

I set a distance trip to Zero when I fill up and then know that I have about 4500Km before I will need more. At about 4000Km I get some from a pump. This is ALWAYS much cheaper than buying a bottle.
Occasionally the pump nozzle will not fit so it is better to get it early.
Don't worry the Adblue pump will cut off when your tank is full.

Just to really p**s off I pay 37 pence a litre but that us 4000 kyrs bulk delivery but goes to show how much mark up they are putting on it

That is expensive 🙁. Just bought 10 litres (2 x 5) of Redex Ad Blue from Amazon for £17.98.
Currently having a problem with my regeneration system and in garage for repair on Wednesday hopefully.

Nick was so worried about AdBlu when we got our Consort less than a month before we went on our big Romania/Bulgaria tour that we travelled with 10 litres. Glad we did as we rarely saw a pump, only when we’d just filled up of course!

We’d also read that consumption can be high when new.

Easy to buy a new one and always cheap somewhere.

It is lovely of course the occasional time we’ve found a reasonable priced pump. Never seen one near us.

I've been bitten on the arse by Shell on the A55 over washer fluid, ran dry so needed it. 5l bottles on the forecourt, no price sticker. £12 effin quid! it's less than £3 in Aldi. Never, will I ever, not check all levels before departing. I now carry a spare of the cheap stuff.

On my way to The Outer Hebrides I filled up with diesel at Moffat. I noticed I was parked next to an AdBlue pump and topped up the AdBlue at the same time. on the way back south I stopped at exactly the same spot and topped up the AdBlue again. Same pump same position which enabled me to calculate fairly accurately that I was getting 298 miles per litre of AdBlue. The cost was less than 0.5p per mile compared to 25p per mile for diesel used. My conclusion, top up with AdBlue whenever convenient and don’t worry about the cost. Glad I didn’t pay £40 for 10 litres.

Hi, just to make you feel better same thing happened to us last week on the A272. A shell garage too. Only, knowing it was going to be expensive I purchased 5l for £27.50. The cashier said it works out cheaper to buy 10 l .. £48.00 !!
Not only that their diesel was £2.14 a l. Highway robbery I call it.🤬

Sounds like you came off at J23, then dropped down to the Shell, there’s a BP opposite which is cheaper.

There’s an HGV station at J24 with an adblue pump, as you come off the motorway go left on A38 and its just there.

Put one of those little tablets in the glove box. Then all you need is water and that's free.

Should have used Forte Diesel Particulate Filter Cleaner And Regenerator first before taking it to the garage, after all that's what they put in first before going any further, well the ones in know do.

I always carry 1 Yara 3.5 litre Ad-Blue pouch and buy a pack of 5 when on special offer. Not the cheapest but a great backup that can be stored discretely meaning that, in "emergency" I have plenty of miles to get to a place that sells it on draught. 😄

B&M £10.00 for 10 litres.....and obviously they are still making a profit.

I was less than a tenner for 10 litres at a fairly local plumbing supplier that had it on offer. My Sprinter-based had just covered around 7,500 and was down to about one-third, so I thought I would put in 10 litres.

Filled up with diesel at Subigas just off the A23 about 50 miles south of Zaragoza in Spain. Noticed Adblu €0.58 per litre so thought might as well top up whilst there. Set amount or full pumps only. Later in the day checked my card. €85.50 for €70 diesel and €85.50 for 10L adblu. Nearly had a heart attack. Re checked a couple of days later and the figures had been adjusted to the correct amounts. Phew!

We left home for our trip to Germany/Poland with 2x 10ltr packs in our store - and 1 5ltr windscreen wash - all from Aldi .. been 3 weeks now , 1600 miles, on our way back and just crossed the German border at Oeding , and saw my first AdBlue pump in a filling station today! I’ve still got 1/3 left of my first Adblue , so I’m well sorted for journey home via Amsterdam/Newcastle and up the M74 - L
