Come to Germany! It's great for motorhoming/van life.
Some time ago we planned to go to Norway but were then obliged to change our plans. Now things have changed again and we are in Denmark, are booked for the Hirsthals-Kristiansand ferry on Thursday 19th and estimate a ten-week stay in Norway.

However, we have not yet registered for a charging system for our 3.5t motorhome for the toll roads and ferries, so would thus appreciate good advice on this.

My understanding is that the AutoPASS, which is the best/most economical system (?) requires that a physical device be sent to one's home address (?) - for us now impossible. So, at this rather late point in time, how should I best go about this? I need to do something, I think, by tomorrow evening, Wednesday 18th.

Thanks for any good advice.

I found this post from February for you that might be helpful. Thanks to vzac
Edit: on my firstvread of it , I thought you could just register online and get billed to credit card but on second reading it may not be so helpful. I would ask at the ferry terminal.

Ok. You have to register with autopass, as they are the government site to register your vehicle with, you will need to upload you v5. This then informs the providers who collect the tolls, about 8 you can choose from, and need to register with them as well epass I think is one of them. If you then want to use ferries within norway you need to go back to autopass web site and register separately for the ferries. As my van is over 3.5t I have to have a tag. You can then decide if you want a tag, so you pay as you go with discount on both ferries and tolls. Or decide to pay via anpr, where you will receive an invoice to your address, but can also request if via email, and you pay as the invoice comes in.on top of that you have bridge tolls, some toll collection companies offer upto 50% discounts on crossings. You need to decide which bridges you are crossing and which companies give discounts and you may have to register with them as well.
I have paid for ferries upfront, as you get further discount on some ferries, and have had to get a tag to put in window at a cost of 200k, which is refundable.
It's very complex.

As said above it can get confusing, even more so if you're not sitting comfortably at home. We used Brobizz as our provider as we crossed the Danish toll bridges initially and that, after registering with EPH for payment, covered us for Norway tolls too. The Autopass ferries is a newer add on since our travels but I would suggest calling Brobizz and asking for advice, maybe there is an option to collect the tag from somewhere before you sail, alternatively contact one of the Norwegian providers when in Kristiansand.

Edit: I would suggest you don't stray too far from K'sand before getting sorted as I seem to remember tolls pretty much everywhere.

Thanks very much for these three responses.

In fact I came across that same post, Riverbankannie, but the Autopass device, I thought, needs to be sent to an address, which for us is not possible.

Bailey58 (Rob?), I'm about to call Brobizz Denmark to see what they say. Were you suggesting that one of those five providers might have an office in Kristiansand, somewhere we could go to collect a tag?

Brobizz and OresundPay are Copenhagen based but of the others Fremtind were Oslo Skyttel and Flyt were Bergen but may well have other options if you can call them.

I can deal with Autopass at either the Hirtshals or Kristiansand ferry terminal. Seems too good to be true but there it is. I was on live chat with Fremtind Service: fast and helpful. So am about to get the process started with Autopass, thus speeding things up when I pick up (I hope) the tag. Looks good, fingers crossed.

Sounds very complicated . Just roughly what are looking at in terms of money for passes and ferries - let’s days in the OPs post for a 10 week trip ?

Vastly reduced fees for tolls for the many roads and bridges that charge them in Norway and paid via registration with EPC (European Parking Collection) or bills sent to your home but maybe not a good idea if away for ten weeks.

popotla, don't forget to add the autopassferry option too.

But then get out of kristiansand as soon as you can 😉

A partial breakdown of our travel costs for the five weeks or so we were away and how we paid so we could keep track. Often you've gone through a toll road without even noticing. We crossed into Sweden via the bridge and returned to Hirtshals via ferry from Kristiansand.

I thought that as you do do not exceed the 3.5 tonne, you were in the M1 section and had a number of options?

I notice, from your avatar that you are from Germany, do they not have cheaper travel schemes?

Getting the tag didn't work out for me. In case there's anything here that might help others, I'm describing what happened in a separate post.
