I have just got a net gear nighthawk m3 Wi-Fi hotspot for our van.I tested it briefly at home just connecting my phone.

We are now away in the van and our phones and I pads connect fine but the tv cannot see the nighthawk Wi-Fi signal for some reason.

Any suggestions as to why or what I can try?
Thanks

Is the TV capable of receiving WiFi ? We have Netgear M2 and we have it connected to the TV via a fire stick ...

Tv is capable of receiving Wi-Fi and is finding other Wi-Fi signals from vans around us just not ours 😡.
I can’t for the life of me figure out why.

Is the Netgear set to either broadcast 2.4GHz or 5GHz as your TV may only be able to receive one or the other of these?
Phones usually can receive both but older tech sometimes can only receive 2.4GHz

The net gear is displaying 5ghz broadcast tv is also new but not to say it is old tech.
I have looked at the instructions when I found out it doesn’t work 🙈. The instructions are basic at best can the settings be changed on the m3 do you know?

I’m afraid that I don’t know but very likely someone else in here will…

Hope this might help
From this..

Lenny333's suggestion is where I would start too.

I'm pretty sure my old M1 broadcast a dual band as standard (both 2.4 and 5GHz simultaneously) but it's been a while and things may have changed.

Pretty easy to change as per the link 15isto2 helpfully posted.

If that doesn't work then I'd be inclined to factory reset the Nighthawk (the M1 had a hole that you could poke a paper clip into to do this, I don't know with the M3 but it's probably similar) and start again from scratch.

Let us know how you get on! (y)

My new model Avtex wouldn’t work on 5Gh.

It couldn’t see my iPhone hotspot.

I called Avtex and they told me toggle off/on the Maximise Compatibilty button on the Hotspot settings. That worked.

What model Avtex do you have as I’m about to order a. Nighthawk M3?

It's worth noting that maximise compatibioity and effectively enabling 802.11g on a router on 2.4ghz will reduce the peak performance for ALL devices from a max of 5-600Mbit/sec down to around 50 Max.

If your Avtex won't see a 5ghz hotspot in AC mode, personally I'd just put a Firestick on it, which WILL support the faster performance and won't slow every other device down for the TV to work. Should add that enabling the older modes on routers which is what maximise compatibility does, slows every device on the network to the slowest demonomator in effect.

In simple terms you could hahve brought an older Netgear or older device if you try to make a modern wifi chip backdate to that older level of compatibility, as the 4g will likely be quicker than the wifi in most cases if you make the wifi downrate to the level the tv supports.

Not sure on the model but it was new in December the tv connects to my phones hot spot but does not see the nighthawk hawk signal.
Currently on the road so difficult to spend some time with this but we need some down time at a camp site soon so will look into this in depth and report back

Thanks seems like a new tv with old tech. We have a fire stick at home so will try this when we get back.👍

Just to update this.
Today I needed to do some work and the mobile printer I brought would not connect to the nighthawk m3 either so I had to tackle the issue.
A reset of the nighthawk and a change of settings to duel band and both the printer and the tv can now see the router so result.
Thanks for everyone’s help on this 👍

I took delivery of a Nighthawk yesterday and setting it up was an absilute nightmare! The QR Codes threw up messages that they coulfd not be recognised! I found that I could not 'see' any other options to try and resolve the problem, so I returned it this am in desperation. Did you find it an easy unit to set up"

I've a FritzBox Modem from Zen Internet, an iPhone, iPad and a Mac and a SMARTTY Data SIM (yes, it was insterted in the Nighthawk) , and trying to get to Netger's http:// page was again impossible!

What was I doing wromg?

Our Kuma 4G Lite works a treat, just tyhought I'd upgtrade to a Nighthawk 5g nodem to take advantage of 5G where it's availavble.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Sorry I can’t help with your situation. I did find the unit easy to set up. The only issue I had was the tv not seeing the Wi-Fi as soon as the settings were changed to duel band everything has worked perfectly.
