A small discovery that helped me with a Stop/Tail bulb (1 Viewer)

My motorhome is a 2008 model and has always had dicky bulbs in the rear lights.
The lights are the generic Hella ones.

The stop/tail on the RH unit are always giving trouble and I have tested that 12v is present right on the contactor that touches the solder blob on the bulb but no light. Over the last year I've been taking it apart and shining the surface of the contactor with a bit of emery paper and all seems well.............until the next time.

Then it struck me , I've removed the plating by sanding , even gently and what's happening is the surface oxidizes and corrodes very slightly, hence no light.

So I once again took it apart , shined it again and applied a bead of solder the the end of the contactor or spring where it touches the bulb.

Eureka! all seems ok now , the solder should maintain connectivity with a low resistance.
Only time will tell , but it seems like a fix to me.......................

The alternative being a new lamp cluster

The light units on the infrequently used number plate board of my motorbike trailer were constantly giving trouble until I applied a light smear of Vaseline on all the contacts after cleaning them.
