These are not my words but they struck a chord...…..to many have paid the ultimate price and this is what they get.

Genuinely can’t believe what I am reading this morning!!!
Doctors, dentists and teachers are all getting a pay rise because of their response to the pandemic
🤔
Doctors surgeries are seeing minimal patients and remain closed for normal clinics, dentists have only just opened for emergency treatment after remaining closed for the majority of the pandemic and teachers have been working maybe one to two days a week since the schools closed and are now on 6 weeks holidays.
So let’s reward them with a 3.1% pay rise.

NHS staff who have been working as normal in hospital environments since the start of the pandemic and continue to do so now, risking their lives by treating Covid patients with minimal PPE, and losing lives because you contracted Covid-19, you can have a clap on a Thursday for 12 weeks.... well done!
Oh and just to make sure you feel completely undervalued, we will reward all health and social care workers outside the nhs a £500 bonus and give you nothing!!.

Doesn't sound right to me. The government are saying they are in the 3rd year of an agreed 3 year deal but it must be looked at again. I am not sure if just a pay rise is the correct way as quite a lot of retired NHS staff returned to work to help out and they would not benefit from a pay rise so perhaps a one off bonus payment should be considered as well.
There is also a need to recruit more NHS staff so a decent pay rise would be needed.

I cannot fully comment as it will be seen as political, but agree with what you are writing and do feel NHS staff are under-valued and under-paid

As far as I read GP's are not part of this pay rise.

I don’t see how public sector pay rises are even a thought during this time of huge losses and most people in the exact opposite position with no options. Another case of free money being handed out.

Dont worry it’s not Scottish teachers. Though as I’ve said before, teaching online extended my working day to 7am to 10pm ...

I believe nurses were previously granted a fixed pay increase over two years.
That's the reason they were left out of this increase.
But no one expected the pandemic to happen within 2 years at that point? I assume their pay increase could be enhanced somehow- even with a bonus. It seems monstrously unfair that we have been rewarding them by clapping . I accept many people have been working 12 hour days seven days a week [from home - civil servants and teachers included ] but nurses have been putting their lives at risk and working in very uncomfortable conditions [full PPE/masks/ death and isolation all around] I dont think there is any REASONABLE explanation for this.

It's about the fact that some who neither need or have earned a pay increase are being rewarded.....that is the slap in the face.
If your the exception to this then 'power to your elbow' as they say.
BUT if you have been working longer hours from home, have you been putting your life on the line.....

Still nothing like the amount those not in the front line have got.
Health service is notorious for, fixed, over a period low % the last such when I was working took so long that I retired without having an increase. By the time you finally got anything, and not backpayed as had been promise you were worse off than before.
Nurses are sick of teachers talking about how they have had quality time with their children and showing pictures of days out, while nrses Kids can't even stay with family because of safety issues. absolutely stinks.

I thought the £500 bonus was just for Wales care staff and absolutely nothing for England?

As mentioned in other posts NHS staff have a fixed deal and I doubt whether many in private business will get a pay rise for some time .just for clarity most teachers have continued to work mainly as child carers and I know of a school where they are back to work for a few days tomorrow to train rather than at the start of term! As like any body whether furloughed or not they are entitled to their holidays .Try a day in the class room I'm sure many would not want to be a teacher.

The real irony will be when all those hankering for handouts and free money now are bemoaning below inflation rises in 5 years time.

No doubt just like a decade and a half ago the fact they've spent and cheered the spending of the next 5 years earnings today will pass them by.

There is also a need to recruit more NHS staff so a decent pay rise would be needed.
Hi.
Please do not take this the wrong way. I am NOT for dumbing down.I am sure there are people who would just love to go nursing, but are put off/barred because of the qualifications needed to get onto the ladder. I am sure, like me you ahve met people who are Ace at their jobs, with no formal qualifications, what ever happened to " Learning on the job ? " In the haulage business, there were/are "Fitters in my days ( Mechanics whatever now ),who could get up and running the most BLR technical motors, but had NO PAPERS.... ( Could not emigrate ? )
Give people the chance to have a go at their dreams,on the job training....... Oh,and of course.... The RIGHT MONEY.

Im not sure where the vitriol’s coming from. All I said was that this doesn’t apply in Svptlsnd and the assumptions you made were not correct, in my experience.

Surely though.... They have been right up close to all stuff Covid? Surely they deserve more?
Regards kev 🤔👍

Actually our son and his wife are both teachers and we have been surprised and saddened at how little they have done during lockdown - they've basically done less than a day a week. Also at our local primary school some parents are really upset as the response from the school for extra work was 'there's plenty on C-Beebies, get them to watch that'. From what I can see most teachers have not put themselves out at all and are not into 6 weeks of their 10 weeks (plus inset days and bank holidays) off. Our daughter is front-line NHS, working in full PPE every day, dealing with tragedy...sorry, but there's no comparison to 'trying a day in the classroom...'.

We will have to disagree ,for your info holidays etc are are pro rota so in effect their monthly pay reflects this spread over the salary year. Also imost 'Front line workers ' relied on the schools for caring for their children while doing their job caring for the unfortunate this included cancer patients etc. Its difficult to compare jobs but all I'm saying is there's plenty of people working very hard in this pandemic.

I cant repeat our daughters take on this matter. She has been on the wards all through the pandemic. She has taken no annual leave other than her shift breaks until this weekend.
