A short trip to Scotumberland.

Up at 9 this morning, down to castle when we are ready.
It's a 15 minute walk.
Site Wi-Fi here is weak as is phone signal.
TV kept freezing last night.
Culzean  ccc club site is a good site nicely situated but cost us £61.50 for 2 nights.
We did want Thomaston farm just a few minutes walk from here, it would have been more reasonable but it's fully booked.

Went past a couple of lochs on the route and a hydroelectric plant.

Most of the U.K. wind farms are controlled from up there, the estate is owned by Fred Olsen as in cruise ships and ferries. He employs 85 people at the control centre and a good few more on his estate, hard to believe as it’s middle of nowhere. You should’ve spent the night at Loch Doon, stunning location with small campsite.

Claim to fame.... I have met Fred Olsen (jnr) and several members of the wider Olsen family. Fred came on board one of the ships when docked to inspect it and also spoke with several guests asking for honest opinions and feed back.

When on cruises it's not uncommon for members of the family to be on board. When we were off the coast of Greenland there was a commemorative service for lives lost at sea and Fred's grandson (possibly great-grandson) threw the wreath overboard.

Believe the site is run by an association.
Will be looking for places "in the wild" next time we are this way

Been on a few P&O cruises and Marella but never Fred.
Cruising days over, passports ran out during first COVID year and we have never bothered since.

Back from castle, had lunch.
Heading back down again later, either to the beach or another look round the grounds.

Left Culzean at 10am after dumping grey water and cassette contents at the Moho service point.
Drove through Turnberry and Girvan then instead of taking the A75 coast road took the cross-country A714. Another switchback road but gorgeous scenery.
Arrived at Mossyard campsite at gatehouse of fleet at 1200.
What a lovely site. Here for 2 days just to relax.

Up at 9, getting to be a habit.
At home it's usually 7.30.
Had put up our Blue diamond windbreak yesterday, replaces the Outsunny one we got from E-bay .
It was cheap and not so cheerful.
Poor performance. Blue d is much better.

IMG_20250503_100820256_HDR.webpNext one shows the screw eyes I've fitted for the guy ropes and the modified pole to attached to the side of the van.

IMG_20250503_100830146_HDR.webpUsed a "z" nut normally for unistrut, and a bolt through the slot in the pole. Guy ropes provides additional support.

First impression, it's working well.

Went for a walk along the coast through the bramble and the sand pathways.

If you can do without electric there's another site just around the next bay (Newton Campsite).

Did you get over to the island (at low tide) and walk the Labyrinth?

Got to the island but not on it, wife wasn't up to clambering over the rocks.

Embleton beach Northumberland. That's dunstanbrough castle in distance there's a CCC club site nearby.

We had to cut short our Northumberland trip, otherwise we were going to visit Duns castle and Seaton delavil hall on our way back home.

Robin hoods bay still looks the same only cardiac hill seems steeper  I also have found memories of camping at Whitby and robin hoods bay. There's a few ccc THS coming up at Whitby.

After a lunch of home made corned beef pie, first in years; we simply relaxed in the sun.
BBC weather app tells me 16°C here today but sitting relaxing in our chairs outside we were ❤️‍🔥 in the sun.
A bit more cloudy now, will be packing up the seats and windbreak later ready for the off tomorrow.
Got to get home, a few things on.
Planning a hopefully longer trip to North and Mid Wales for later in the month.

Back to the land of prince bishop's drive carefully
