Thank goodness we are all so different and that almost any layout can come close to perfect for someone. On another thread someone is searching for a van that has everything they want, when along come comments as to how awful that vans layout is.
I have recently bought another motorhome, which had everything we could wish for, with a slightly odd layout, having the washbasin in the centre of the van. Overall the whole concept answered all of our needs.
I guess that we must be unique as they no longer make this layout.

I always seem to gravitate towards the different, unusual but also have an engineer so mister exact as a partner, makes for some interesting choices. present van is his.

Some Motorhomes are far too over complicated.
eg, Making beds up designed by Mr Rubic.
Shower screens that need assembling before use and then put away again.
Calibrating water pumps/ water tanks. groan.
Simple stuff that works is great.
Pull out or ready made bed.
Walk in shower.
Simple controls.
It's just a Campervan not a mission to Mars.

Always amazed how many vans have toilets on plinths just in case Peter Crouch visits and needs a poo. Surely Mr Thetford designed his loo to be at the optimum height for most of his customers so why then jack it up so their feet dangle in thin air?

Perfect Motorhome?
Doesn't exist!
Everyone wants something different and we all want everything!

What do you have ?

I know a member here, who spent upwards of £100k on a really big German van, then sold it a couple of weeks later, because, when she sat on the loo, his wife's legs were dangling mid-air. :D

A couple of house bricks would have solved the problem:Grin:

Was that Mr Daddy Long Legs Thetford by any chance?

So that it fits the van/coachwork

Everybody’s needs are different.
My wife has a mobility scooter which breaks into four pieces. We also have a dog so our criteria are to be able to use sites within walking distance of somewhere and or have a van big enough to accommodate the scooter and dog but small enough to park near places we want to visit.

When we got the Miller Alabama States, we thought it had the perfect layout for us
A year later saw me changing it to add a bench seat where a dinette had been
It once again became perfect

Right up until we bought the Chieftain.. Now THAT has the perfect layout ( actually, apart from very slight remodelling here and there, after five or six years we still think it is perfect for us so maybe,,, just maybe.......... :) )

I think you are absolutely correct. I can visualise the designer sat looking at his computer screen, cup of coffee in hand saying “you know, I think the external door to empty the cassette would look better 6 inches higher up, above the lovely decal I have designed to stick on the sides of the van. No problem, I’ll put the toilet on a plinth, that won’t cause any problems and would slot in well with the 5 foot 10 inch beds I have designed for the dwarves I predict will buy our products. Now I’ve catered for both ends of the human height spectrum, what a genius I am. Have I ever holidayed in a motorhome myself? Don’t be silly, why would I do that?”......

The height of the loo in our new van is a little inconvenient but a small folding step easily resolves the dangling legs. The reason appears to be the position of the wheel arch and pushing the bathroom back over it seems to be part of making a bit more space in the lounge. I suspect that designing comprehensive living accommodation that fits inside a 7x2M box always involves some compromise. You need to take care when choosing a motorhome, which includes sitting on the loo and pretending to take a shower. You can then decide whether the compromises are deal breakers or ones you are happy to live with.

I wonder whether too many motorhomes are chosen from crowded indoor shows and showrooms. Things often look idyllic under warm bright lights with highly polished goods and salespeople pushing the dream. A couple of hours left alone with your potential purchase, on a cold wet car park, is possibly a better environment to make a rational decision.

Having had our Hymer S740 for 5 years, I can say with confidence that we would really struggle to find a better layout for our needs.
I have had the opportunity to be invited into many different motorhomes from different manufacturers on our travels and would still not swap ours for anything else.
I think that once you've found something that works for you, stick with it even if there are a few small niggles. Nothing is ever perfect, only nearly perfect. ?

What can be done in a 7 x 2 frame does not prevent going upwards

Didn't know you had been in my Burstner !!!! :xdoh:

I would love a Thetford and not this stupid Dometic bog.. :xsad: Never thought to sit on the loo before we bought it... Hopefully someone may buy me a step for xmas.. :xThumb:

When we were designing our current motorhome the toilet height was somewhat of a problem due to the wheelarch. My wife (all 5ft 2in of her) wanted a high toilet which solved the location problem and she finds it just right but I at 5ft 9in find it too high, I can't work that one out.

Probably because us shorter people are already used to coping with everything being designed for Mr Average. I expect taller than average people also have to find ways of coping.

p.s. that is why we already have a handy little step to use with our tall toilet

That was one of the things that put us off with Carthago.

Yes we have chausson 630 which is a perfect layout for us.We can leave beds made up and raise them and lower them as required, our only problem is we can't quite do the Viennese Waltz but can manage a rumba! Oh would be good if chausson were to build them a little better otherwise all good.

I don’t think a perfect Motorhome exists. There is always a comprimise. Designers of Motorhomes don’t use Motorhomes.
Very true.

We know a couple who bought a new van . And after their fist long trip put it up for sale. The passenger seat was to high .Her little legs would not touch the floor. They are still looking for one that fits her legs. Did offer to build her a small box.

When we had the same problem, I used the levelling blocks in the cab
Solved the problem and the blocks were easy to get to, not hidden away in a locker.
