I was chatting to a friend of mine who lives in Majorca today. She mentioned an article that was in their local Spanish newspaper recently. It was reporting that officials are trying to get the 90/180 day rule overturned, specifically for motorhomers and caravaners. I know there have been rumbles about the French, Spanish and Portuguese trying to get rid of the 90/180, but I'd never heard of this angle being suggested for motorhomers before. Just thought I'd let you guys know....

From what I can see is that the Med regions want us there longer but the rest couldn’t care less.

No point in extending the 90 day rule to 180 with an AHC that lasts 120.

We don't all have dogs..I can manage easily with 90 days it's the in 180 that spoils it for us.Our normal travelling was late April to mid July and then early Sept to late November.. BUSBY.

animal health cert, instead of pet passport.
only valid for 4 months , but not a problem that cannot easily be overcome.
I’m pretty sure there is, are ways to overcome this slight difficulty.
Take no notice of the nay sayers they are naturally negative people. I do think after reading this forum for the past couple of years that negativity seems to go hand in glove with old age (old age is not measured in years but attitude) and the older they are the more negative.
We aquired a pet passport for our dog in France last August, without any problems surprisingly. This passport was greatfully accepted by the pet passport people, I was complimented by the young man checking this pet passport on having the foresight to get it.

It was an option for me to retire in France. No longer an option for obvious reasons but I am hopeful the rules become a bit more relaxed, I admire glenn2926 optimism and hope he is right.

My belief is we need a change of government direction to make things move forwards, a customs Union would be far cheaper and better for the UK with none of the current issues that keep surfacing. Once that’s sorted, the AHC and visa requirements will hopefully follow.

I hope we have an option to travel Europe extensively in future without restriction.

Perhaps a similar agreement to the common travel area agreement we have with Ireland would work?

I wonder if extending the stay for Brits would be a big benefit to France & Spain. I’ve seen very few UK plates across Spain in the last month but campsites are still busy/full. The Dutch and Germans seem to have filled any gaps that may have appeared.

My parents are currently in Benidorm and have said the same, very few Brits and lots of Germans and Dutch. However its my parents opinion that we Brits spend a lot more than the Germans and Dutch....

Good point...fortunately I have an Uncle living in France whose address I can use for a pet passport (he doesn't know it yet!)

So much that wasn't made known before the vote could well have made for a different outcome.
I very much doubt it. There aren’t really many old people travelling in motorhomes compared to the whole population. This forum does give a skewed view of the general population.

That's the EU, shoot themselves in the foot. Why put a time limit on people coming over to spend money?

Why can't you retire to France? People used to before the EU. You just have to go through the process. It's something we've considered albeit not France these days, far too restrictive now.

Tbf it was ridiculous that people could move to another country on a whim, with no background checks and no effort to integrate or learn the host countries language. I'm not anti-immigration but without some control it can cause massive problems.

Local Spanish Newspaper...when do they report on Facts, and how big is the Motorhoming community on Majorca...they have picked up on a story that originated in Valencia early November, which hasn't gained any ground...The Costas Regions may rumble on about the 90/180 but the rest of Spain couldn't give a hoot...

We could have controlled that like other countries such as france and belgium do that you need employment, register locally and not be a drain on society Or be returned to your home country.

The UK government never choose to implement any of Those things that could have been done whilst we were in the EU.

I don't dispute that hmg could have done a better job, but name me a country in the original membership that doesn't have an immigration issue?
