We chose the Poole to Cherbourg crossing as it’s daytime and only about 4 hours. We parked on the port by the sheds and woke to a friendly “Pay £15 at the cafe for parking overnight on port property”. No delays and prompt boarding and ship Barfleur left 10 minutes early! Normally we would use Plymouth or the tunnel. Not been to France for a few years as we have been to Spain & Portugal so looking forward to it.

We were not asked about turning the gas off before boarding so left it on but had only brought the remains in our domestic fridge with us so no freezer food to defrost!

On disembarking at Cherbourg there was a perfunctory passport check and the stamping of the passports.

We then headed for the commercial district up the hill out of town to stock up at Auchan.

We then had an easy 2.5 hour drive to Argentan for our first nights stop. We chose a rural aire to the east but the 4 places had been taken by 3 vans not allowing us a space so we have ended up at the aire in Argentan next to the municipal site which we could not go on as we are too big and heavy for their soft grass pitches as there has been a lot of rain very recently!

Just chilling now after some nice salmon quiche, new potatoes and peas followed up by a chocolate religieuse each with a G & T!

I read the thread title just after I had finished plotting our stops on our way to Annecy - strange.

We leave Poland in about a week so 4 days to get there.

We stopped at. Cosne Cours sur Loire last night and heard the sad news that our Queen had passed away. That dampened our spirits somewhat even though it was inevitable. She has been a dutiful, selfless monarch for 70 years and what a fantastic job she has done.

The campsite was full of oak trees, which have shed their acorns already and many of their leaves due to the drought. 15.28 euros for the night.

We have arrived at. Bourg en Bresse and are parked up in the 30 place municipal aire opposite the football stadium which is completely FREE! There is a local bar, restaurant, Lidl and other shops close by.

This is where we are now!

Another option is to stay at the Baker’s Arms pub, 3 miles from the port. Lovely pub and super menu. We live 5 minutes from Poole Ferry port. We usually take the tunnel because of cost but after this years debacle of crossings we will be laying a little more and going from our home town. The only downside is the limited times of crossings.

Bastards. It used to be free!
Its the cafe owner pulling a fast one, the sign that the port have up for the charge is blanked out. We did not pay it when we stayed last month.

We will be choosing a campsite on the lake I expect and one as near the town as possible. Looking forward to visiting the town, cycling around the lake and enjoying the views.

Nothing seems to be very close to the town, except the Aire up the hill which is usually rammed, so you will need your bicycles but the cycling round the lake is easy.

We chosen the campsite - Le Solitaire du Lac which is about half way down the lake - about 25€ per night inc Electric with ACSI.
