5 days in France, suggestions please?

What about garages?
Only one experience, in a new MG about 35 years ago; wipers broke in a torrential rainstorm near Lyon. Found BL agent in town and they were fixed within 2 hours over lunchtime, they sorted out the warranty claim too so nothing to pay.
Had assistance from Fiat truck dealer in Bremen a few years ago when we lost 6th gear on manual box. Mechanic dropped everything, came for test drive, diagnosed problem, reassured us OK to continue without 6th. Again no charge but I dropped him some Euros for being so helpful. Been on the wrong end of the police in France a couple of times and even they were polite and civil, almost friendly while relieving me of my Euros!

Aramanches is great, good new museum in town plus the 360 cinema. Aire on the cliff overlooking mulberry harbour.

If you get to Arramanches, take a look at the sculpture on the headland overlooking one of the D-Day beaches.

It is the work of Sculptor Tom Dagnall, who also happens to be the bass-payer/vocalist in our combo.

Fabricated at Tom's workshop in Bretherton, and originally sited at the D-Day 75 Garden at the Chelsea flower show, (2019) it was later transported to France, and now has pride of place on that headland.

The sculpture is of veteran Bill Pendell MM, who sadly passed away before he could see his likeness-in-stone located at Arramanches.

free if you're in France passion about 10Euro if not

La Mailleraye sur seine for next stop

Hi, us again! Just one further point. When leaving Calais is there a favourite stop for people for the first night that is safe. I suspect a lot of campsites would be closed until end March early April. Thank
Wissant, about 20 mins from Calais, we always go there to the mh aire.

Good luck! The French still hate us hope you don’t break down like we did last year, never again!
Really? Personally in 50 years of travelling in France never found that to be the case.....perhaps it is just you.

In my experience, The French are pretty much like any other race.

I have met some French folk who are downright rude, and others who are friendly, helpful, and who make excellent company when socialising over a few bevies.

At one site, near Langres, I ended up playing with a local band who were performing for somebody's birthday at the equally local Salle des fêtes, a great night was had by all.

On another occasion we were invited were invited to a picnic at a local beach, . . . . . nobody informed us beforehand that it was a naturist beach, . . . . quite an eye opener !

We have been invited to share aperitifs, challenged to boulle matches, and have often been asked to join drinking sessions, . . . as long as I bring my guitar.

I think having the guitar with me during our travels helps the socialising a lot, even if the temperature and humidy changes don't do much for the guitar itself.

I like France, 99% of it;s people, their wine, their gastronomic delicacies, and am just sad that due to my wife's deteriorating health, we have now made our last vist .

Well said, sorry to hear that your wife is not so bouncy.

It's always sad to hear how some people slag off other nationalities, a bit of jest is always good if in the right spirit but not the silly and meaningless comments 'Purple' made without context on a forum such as this. It would be nice if he was big enough to come back and apologise. Just my opinion. As you say, of course there are some rude French, the same as every other nation on earth. But, quite possibly, 'Purple' is whiter than white!

Yeah, . . . I guess it takes all sorts.

I imagine Purple had a bad experience during a breakdown.

On one of the several times that we broke down, near Chalons on this particular occasion, the garage at which we ended up could not have been more helpful.

They found us a hotel for the necessary overnight stop, drove us there, and picked us up the following morning, and once we were repaired, followed us in order to return my Mastercard, which I had inadvertently dropped when we left the cash desk.

Yeah, I guess it takes all sorts, eh what ?

Saint-Valery-sur-Somme on the other side of the bay from Le Crotoy? Pleasant place and some nice restaurants.

Étretat is a lovely place to visit. Short but bracing walks onto the spectacular cliffs.

Lovely town, with a decent aire about 15 minutes walk from the centre.

My mother came in a visit and as we drove down the road in to Aronmanche she said "I recognise this. Landed here on the Mulberry harbour on D-39". She was a physiotherapist in the army medical corps. You can, or could 20 years ago, see the remnants of the harbour out in the bay.

Still can.
