My Benimar 243 (2019) has an anonymous grey box adjacent the mains trips box and separate to the cbe 12v fuse/control box. It contains 10 mini fuses of various values between 15 and 3 amp and a relay with 70 amp capacity. The box is a generic type with no identifying information.

Does anyone know what these fuses are for and what the relay's function is? I've tried pulling a few fuses to identify what they serve but didn't find any systems affected, though I probably didn't try hard enough. My own guess at the function of the relay is that it is a) the split charge relay that operates when engine running or b) the main 12V isolator operated by the 12V on/off switch on the control panel.

Benimar provide a wiring diagram with the van but it is very simplified and hence somewhat cryptic and hasn't helped me with this. I like to have an understanding of the van's systems but am stumped by this one. If any one knows what this grey box really does I'd be pleased to hear.

Mike

Could be the fuses for the habitation parts of the vehicle chassis itself i.e. marker lights, stop/tail/indicators etc. This is in addition to the fuseboxes under the bonnet and in the lower front offside dash panel which operate all the other vehicle functions.

Hmm. I would have thought that the external vehicle lights would have to be tied into the Fiat lighting system but I shall investigate further when time permits. Thanks for your input.

Could it be for towbar electrics, or a lighting board for bikes on a bike rack? The 70A relay could be for a caravan leisure battery/fridge.

many many years! since I was a kid
It's likely the fridge and split charge relay, power to step and permanent live to the fridge for light and control

I don't think the van is prewired for these as far as i know and doesn't have them fitted.

As I understand it most of these functions are already included within the cbe unit and the van doesn't have provision for a step but I see where you're coming from.

Looks like this is a mystery to everyone! If I solve it I'll be sure to post on here.

Thanks for that, I have checked all CBE products & it they don’t seem to have that box.
So guess it’s an additional box. Do other Benimar 243 vans have the same box?
I used to own a late 2016 201 & it wasn’t on that. Is it possibly something to do with an add on alarm?

I believe that other 243s have the box but no one on the fb group has been able to help so far. It is a generic, anonymous box that appears to have been put together by Benimar. The van doesn't have an alarm. Possibly the fuses that I haven't yet found a purpose for are for options that aren't fitted but if so I'm surprised that they would bother putting fuses in place. Thanks for your taking an interest in this.
