I have a 2015 Fiat Ducato MH that has just got the dreaded B0100-49 fault code on the airbag ECU. As this cannot be cleared I have decided to purchase a new unit rather than get the broken one repaired. I'm going to fit the new one myself (hopefully). The vehicle battery is relatively new and holding its charge OK. The alternator is working fine. So I don't suspect that "low voltage" was the issue - just that my MH had one of the dodgy ECUs.

I have sourced a new ECU and got multiecuscan. My plan is to remove the old ECU, replace it with the new one, add an additional earthing cable from one of the ECU bolts to the nearby earthing point and then do a proxy alignment so the system will recognise the new ECU.

My question is - does this approach sound OK? Has anyone who has replaced their airbag ECU got any tips and tricks I should be aware of that they can share please? Have I forgotten anything important?

Any and all advice very welcome - many thanks in advance!

PS I'll let you know how I got on with the job in due course

I have a 2017 Ducato Motorhome, with airbag light on, I am confident to replace the ECU but not sure about this proxy alignment.

I see you all talking about something called MultiECUScan

I have a Veepeak v11 + with Bluetooth to my android phone to an app, can it be done with this?

I don't believe you can. You can get different apps that run with the reader so I can't say for definite.

As lots of funsters come back to their vans after the winter break I expect we will see a few more with the dreaded and expensive airbag ecu issue!
I still have the laptop and software with all the cables available for funsters to use. All you need to do is buy a new Airbag ECU around £300 and use the laptop / software to run the proxi scan.
If anyone want to borrow, for free, I just ask you return it by secure postage! feel free to pm me if you want to book it, see attachment for further details.

I obtained a new airbag ECU... Diy fitted before the wife even bought me out a cup of tea

Local garage did the proxi alignment £40 took less than 5 mins but as i had no laptop it seemed pointless to buy the ECUMULTISCAN software. Maybe ask around or there could be a local mobile guy who can do it, try those who offer re-maps etc..

Ours went on our 2019 Burstner. Mechanic said probably low eng battery voltage. To our knowledge the engine has never been started with a low battery, 700 watts of solar on the roof and lives in our garage at the bottom of the garden when not in use and is plugged in a couple of days before use fridge etc. but as the battery was 5+ years old it may of dropped volts when trying to start due to age.

Big shout out to SexyThexy, you are indeed a sexy hunk of a man! You saved my bacon! Thank you for letting me borrow your setup and perform a proxi alignment on my van after replacing the Airbag module. You just know taking it into the garage results in scratching chins and telling you that you need 4 surgeons and the reincarnation of Thomas Edison to fix you ailment. It's a bit scary sending data to the car, and mine failed with a timeout during the process. I ran a scan (twice) and everything was clear (on the second scan). Easy-peasy! You rock! I hope your holiday goes well, and your transmission becomes a thing of the past. (I once spent £20,000 in a cobbled driveway, laid by a scam artist who (I think) robbed the cobbles from Liverpool docks.) It was an eyesore!
