Just a tad..
I know some people on here have done many long extended tours in the past. Brexit and Covid have probably meant that many fewer do this now days.

With Covid hopefully behind us in terms of major impact, we intend to spend four months 121 days away from 26th December in France and Spain.

What I think I shall struggle with is insurance for both ourselves and the MoHo. We are currently with Comfort for the Motorhome and breakdown (7.3T and 9.35m MH) and with LV for annual multi trip insurance. We are fortunate to have no health conditions which cause any insurance constraints. However both these insurances do not seem to be set up for 120 day trips. Anyone any ideas whom I should contact for these types of policies? Anyone any luck with LV and or Comfort in extended Euro cover?

To further complicate matters, our policies both expire and need renewing whilst we are away. Obviously most documents are online these days, but printing hard copies for my travel folder becomes more challenging.

WRT mobile phone (not big data), EE seems to be the optimal as they offer a £10 add on per month per mobile which provides unlimited roaming. They do have fair usage and proof of residence restrictions, but it seems relatively easy to argue these. Any other options?

Thanks in advance everyone… 👍🏻

Policy wise, i’m sure Comfort would give you a quote for that period, probably be expensive though, albeit just factor it into the overall cost.

When I was allowed to stay for longer than 90 days and my travel insurance was for 63 days I simply flew to UK and straight back out every 50 - 60 days thereby starting a new trip. This worked out much cheaper than paying for an extension to insurance.

Don't know your age Carpmart but Saga covered our van insurance for up to 270 days. Only thing we couldn't overcome was renewing our green card for Turkey at the end of the policy year. We could renew the policy no problem, but not the Green Card??

Travel insurance through LV, again 270 days.

Breakdown insurance through RAC and CCC

Both our mobile contract kicked in with fair use terms after about two and a half months. Giffgaff and O2.

Tiekom SIM worked without fault in a midi both with and without the van

just check that you do not need a visa (for the non-EU citizen). I did the research and my wife would need a visa (reverse to your situation)

Hello, I’m very confident that we are fine WRT longer than 90 day stays in the EU. You may be referring to longer than 90 days in any EU state and you do indeed need to register temporary residency in this case.

I recall a thread on here a few months back, with someone who said they were leaving Spain in a similar situation and the border control said just being married did not permit the travel to a EU citizen (but non-EU resident) ‘s spouse exceeding the schengen period. This seems to go against the EU position on the issue.

Can I ask that if you do get a problem that you come back on here and let us know?

Cheers Chas

in my case, I have checked and would definitely require a visa for my wife according to my consulate, and website visa wizard checker (to exceed the 90 days/180).

Hey Chaz

Sounds like poor training of the border official. Bellow is the Directive 2004/38/EC pertaining to freedom of movement for EU citizens and their close families… as a spouse I qualify!

We are fulltimers, Irish passport holders and insured through Comfort with no restrictions, so I am sure they would give you a quote.

Regarding travel insurance, make sure you have this purchased before you leave. We have just returned from 4 months in the Balkans and our travel insurance expired whilst we were overseas (we though it expired in November). As we were overseas at the time, we could not get cover unless we went with a specialist company - we chose Big Cat - and for 2 months cover, it was an eye watering £192. We are both mid 50's with no ailments. Hope this helps!

I will watch this thread as I too need to take out travel insurance with 120 days as Nationwide have changed their policy.

Hi Skez

Do you have details of LV travel insurance - on their site they say their multi trip Premium level only covers up to 90 days!

Any help would be gratefully appreciated

We completed 106 days in the E.U. this year and had Travel Insurance for whole period with Nationwide Flexi Plus. Saga cover for motorhome so all the boxes were ticked. The only restriction was WiFi and its a nightmare trying to get a suitable plane from a UK provider due to the restrictive detail in their T&C. In the end we just used the free WiFi which was widely available. Covid was not an issue, although on the rise in the UK so you may need to be prepared for the re-introduction of pre departure testing. Safe Travels

No matter how much insurance costs to travel it's worth every penny if you ever need to claim for an health issue or accident. Which I did a few years back...
Private hospital for both of us.
Offer to transport MH back to home address.
Private ambulance from hospital to home address..with Nurse...12 hour round trip..
Tot that lot up...perhaps xxxxx times the premium...
A friend drove MH home before insurance company offered their service...
Non of the above was anything related to being in the motorhome, just that I was unable to drive due to an accident....👍🤔🇪🇦

Just found globelink (https://www.globelink.co.uk/) they have multi-trip insurance up to 120 days a time. Basic cover for the 2 of us is £328.95

Hope this helps!

Dave

I got the same quote Fulham Dave … does this seem competitive compared to your previous insurances? I think the Current LV policy (90 days max) was only £100 ish for multi trip… 30 days extra equals £230 extra…. Minimal extra risk for the underwriters one would imagine.. 🤔

I’ve just purchased an extension with nationwide flex account travel, & noticed that the options went up to 180 days. 60 days cost an extra 72 for the two of us (65 & 56), one health condition each. Hope that helps!

Hello PhilandMena

Looking on the Nationwide website site, it’s only up-to 31 day cover. Did you do something else to get your 106 days of insurance? Thanks!

Edit: I’ve found it now… 🤦‍♂️

Fulham Dave - just went through the quote process with Nationwide. Annual multi trip with one 120 day specific trip was around £262. We are both mid 50’s, no impacting health conditions. So a bit cheaper than globelink, but does require a NationwideFlex account to be opened.

Other benefits of the Plus account are breakdown cover (the person, not the car, so covers all ours, including the Motorhome in the EU), and mobile phone cover - which I’ve used after a sunbathing, pool, iPhone incident - excellent service!

Sorry to drag this up again (old age)
What are the limits on NW Flex re dimensions, weight of motorhome.
I ask because Harvey's van isn't exactly a mini.

That's great - which company did you deal with?
We were recently left completely stranded by AVANTI medical cover when my wife needed surgery after a fall (having arrived in Spain only that morning!). Having had to deal with hospital, surgeons, rearranging ferry travel to UK to get to hospital here, and all the Covid clearances in under 24hrs was a nightmare.
We haven't bothered with travel insurance since, although recognise that we're on our own if we get into trouble.
