One of my colleagues at work is buying a new car, a turbo diesel hatchback. He was quoting bhp and 0-60 times. That got me wondering, what is a realistic 0-60 time for a coach built motorhome and (theoretically!!!) what could it be if you thrashed it?

ps. I dont intent to try it in the real world but curious what the numbers would be.

with a 3.0l fiat, pretty quick lower powered engines and really big vans a bit less so

modern TD engines in vans are very capable of keeping up with any traffic and joining a motorway at a slip road pretty safe. not like the old vans of a few years ago, normally aspirated and 0 - 50 eventually

Never tried it but my 2.8TD does seem to have good pulling power, surprised a few when pulling away from the lights.

Why not ask Top Gear, having watched it last night they seem happy to thrash the life out of anything with wheels!!

Mines a 2000 year model with a 7.5 mtr body and a 1.9TD motor so see you tomorrow!!!!!

It is not going to be a thrill so why would you be interested. At a guess I would say the quickest would labor to 60 in a little over 13 seconds. The rest well 20ish if you are lucky.(y)

Once owned a Karmann Missouri .. lovely camper.. this is the tuned version, top speed about 120mph

Karmann Colorado RS at Nürburgring

Now you are talking the VW is still the speed machine. My old 174bhp standard off the production line would readily cruise at 100mph but even that would take 12sec to 60.

Your first name ain't Jenson is it Buttons ;)

Dunno about 0-60, but the other day when joining a motorway, had a run up to join, so we did about 20-60, and it took about 2 minutes. It was a slight gradient though :-)

I have only once driven with serious enthusiasm, rejoining a Spanish dual carriageway, with a few lorries on it, attempted to leave a lay by at lorry speed, ended up with engine in limp mode

Not totally sure the two events were related, but not going to try again to find out :)

On the flat I reckon about 30 seconds in my 2.3 Ducatto.

Our vw sharan does it in around 13sec, reckon the 2.8jtd just over 20sec.
Just based on previous jaunts to the garage following the missus in the sharan...

Whats the saying.....Don't drive faster than your Guardian Angel can fly.......
Its worth remembering that they too are getting on a bit. 0-60 in 2 minutes sounds fast enough to me (y)(y)

With about 180BHP it's about 2.6 seconds.

Oh that's on the bike hectually.

60??? Thats 60??? Good grief Man! that's warp speed!!!

My wife reckons ours would do it in under 20 secs.

Can't see it myself.

I might give it a go at the weekend.

On the Top Gear theme it would be a " Fat man in an overpriced Van" challenge(y)
