X250 3 litre sump pan (1 Viewer)

I raised this a long time ago and bought a sump pan from ebay Poland with seal. I never got around to fitting it but I looked at the sump yesterday and I must do it very soon.
Has anybody done this and is it straight forward or is there more dismantling than the sump clamp bolts? @dave newell lvs

He's 11 years old next month so the Polish very much thicker steel should outlast our usage

Yes Andy I've done it on the 2.3 engine but the 3 litre is almost identical. Be a bit of a mither on your back because of getting to the rear bolts but as long as you get plenty of headroom you'll be fine. Drop the oil first, seems very obvious but it's easily overlooked. A flat paint scraper can help to separate the sump from the block once all the bolts are out. About an hour's work I'd say.

Ours is going rusty too. Just had a go with wire brush and a coat of paint.
We have an undertray covering the pulleys, but not the centre or other side section.
Is this a contributing factor?

@SandraL Centre undertray definitely helps the front but less so the rear

My sump going rusty too. 2019 Fiat 3 litre, 160 multijet. Think it's a common problem. Also, no undertray on mine under the sump.

Sorry to highjack this thread, but......Garage recently changed the oil and now it's showing overfilled on the dipstick. Fiat manual quotes 9.7 litres (sump + filter) for the 160 multijet. Retail oil suppliers seem to indicate 7 litres. Anyone know. Thanks.

If you found reference to 9.7? that may be a factory fill in a dry engine. I'm assuming 2019 is a typo?

Our 2012/3 3litre 180 took about 8 litres on an oil and filter change. Now on max on dipstick and all stars on the dash oil thingy.

Yes, the year should have read 2009.

It looks like the Fiat manual may be a bit over optimistic judging by your advice and that of @SandraL .

Anyway, I'm going to drain some off today. At the mo it's 10mm over on the dipstick and 5 bars on the dash. Normally after a service it's 4 bars on the dash which I'm happy with. I'll be doing my own oil and filter change from now on

Less than £10 for a drain bowl with a pouring spout. Worked well for me.

That looks the business. However as I will be well off the ground I'm going to use a sad old B&Q bucket that was 99p years ago. It can go to the tip when I take the old oil

Update
I put this off time and time again but set about it this morning finally.
Unfortunately advice given earlier is incorrect and I cannot get all the bolts out without removing the offside driveshaft.
Anyway I set about scrapping the substantial rust off and then tapped the metal all over and luckily it doesn’t sound like it’s going to leak anytime soon.
So I’ve just sent the wife for wire brush hammerite and a brush

I managed to change mine without removing any drive shafts had to turn the shafts so that the scallop in the CV allows you to get to the bolt .
Bit fiddly but not impossible
Once mine was off I think a wire brush and a paint would have been sufficient.

It’s not the cv joint in the way it’s the solid tube from the gearbox to the offside drive shaft. This does not rotate. Is yours a 3 litre Iveco.
I’ll take a photo next time I’m under to refit the central engine cover
