Can anyone supply me with sites with EHU open throughout November in the Normandy area please. Am struggling (as a newbie) to find sites along the WW2 beaches for 1/2 night stays that are operational after 4th November. Many thanks. I am sure one of you seasoned travellers can help me out

Doubt if any will be open most campsites close end of September a lot end of August.

All the Aires will be open a few have EHU some the water may be turned off. Plenty of places you can wild by the beaches.

Can't help with campsites but there are plenty of aires that are ideally located to see the beaches and are open all year round.

We visited that area in the winter one year. The aires were all fine and as you'd expect quite quiet. No problems getting water - all the service points we came across were working.

Thank you both. Lenny I was concerned about no campsites so take on board your advice.

Nick it looks like we will be doing the full Aires path. Are you able to let me have a few details on the Aires you stayed at please.

You can park behind the dunes at Juno Beach from , I think 1st October to the end of March. There are toilets and it is a short walk in to town.

We used Ouistreham (Camper Contact 2128), Courselles beach aire (Camper Contact 19391) and Arromaches (Camper Contact 1299)

We didn't have time to see the American beaches on that trip and I can't remember where else we went.

From memory Courselles doesn't have services so make sure you're full and empty when you get there. There are loads of other aires all along the coast though so finding a service point isn't difficult.

Arromaches is a must do for the D-day museum which is open all year.

The Campercontact app is likely your best bet, unless you want to buy All the Aires from Vicarious Books.

Just a note of caution about Oustreham, there have been reports of problems with migrants being somewhat aggressive. The aire is very close to the ferry terminal.

Nick thank you for this, a lot of our journey now covered. We are starting at Caen and working our way up to Cherbourg due to the migrant situation at the port there.

there have been reports of problems with migrants

I've always taken those reports with a very large pinch of salt.

We were in Calais at the time when, if you believed all the reports, every single British registered vehicle was guaranteed to be attacked and set on fire but we didn't see a single trace of any "migrants" never mind close enough to be worried about them.

Nick, normally I would be in your camp, but as this is our first trip we are feeling slightly vulnerable. All advice is good advice. Wish us luck, we will be the dipsticks "lost in France"

I think you can also park at the Pegasus Bridge Museum, only been there when on a bike. Well worth going to.

In summer aires can get busy so we always aim to get there about lunchtime , in winter it may vary but as you are travelling near November 11th time which is commemorated at all memorials I think and not just WW1 , it may be busyier?

There are 2 Pass Etape aires in Normandy. These are a private commercial chain of aires known as “Camping-car Parks”. They include all services including 6A electric hook ups. To my knowledge they are all open all year. On your first visit you purchase a pass card from the vending machine for 4euro. All sites have this vending machine. At the same machine, using your Credit card, load the card with credit (I usually load 30 euros at a time). Each site has a barrier system, which you use to enter and exit and on some sites obtain water (to avoid FLT’s getting water for free by just walking in). Each site costs between 8 and 14 euros a night. There are 2 sites on the WWII beaches - Utah and Carentan. Hope this helps.

These threads are a great excuse to revisit my photo catalogue. Here's Harry in 2009 on the car park at Arromanches, and the sunset later that evening showing the remains of the Mulberry harbours. Big place in my heart as my Dad was on an RN gunner on one of the merchant ships that towed the Mulberry harbours across the channel and repositioned them at Arromanches after the storm.

My wife visited almost every year with a school trip to the Normandy beaches. She highly recommends Arromances 360. Also the market at Carentan where some very nice Calvados is available from M. Prieur :)

We've used that one several times. However on our last visit couple of years ago the service point had been destroyed by a fire (someone decided to have a BBQ under the community centre roof). Anyone know if it's been re-instated?

There is a good barrier controlled aire at St.mere eglise that should be open, an excellent museum in the town. There is also a good museum at dead mans corner, just a few miles before the town.
