Sure I've seen an insert some where that drops into that large cupboard/drawer type storage area in the centre of the dashboard on a Ducato. Think it was for 2 cups and that it just slotted into the back of the door as it dropped down ?

Maybe i just have a vivid imagination and invented the whole thing in a dream one night:whistle:

We don’t have a glovebox there in our cab, although there are cup holders lower down.

Yes just noticed that this morning when we took a trip to the MH shop (always a bad idea...) and I saw that the latest (i guess 2017 onwards) Ducato already has 2 cup holder places in a very similar position.

Vs the after market tray that fits into the glovebox:

We have one. They are hugely expensive! Coffee cups from Costas fit. Small water bottles fit but tend to lean into corners. I also try to change gear with it when I have a tall water bottle in mine.

"Cup holders at last!!!

Great product. Makes a great addition to the Ducato cab. Fitted my x250 perfectly as a replacement for the centre glovebox (which we hardly used!)

Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: New"

I removed the stupid Fiat fitted cup-holder moulding from our Campscout and put in an original centre drop down locker as we use it a lot for maps, guide books and our supply of Werther's Originals!

The cup holders stick out so much it would have prevented one of our dogs laying on the floor there (she gets worried so needs to be near us) therefore it was a no-no from the start ... as soon as we bought the camper, before we even collected, it was one of the first items on the fettling list to alter!

Have been scouring for something that did the job and wasn’t in the way like the mirrorguard item. This is bob on. Hope it arrives soon.

Thank you.

I'll warn you now its a bit of a sod to get the old one out and put the new one in especially if the plastic surround slightly distorts due to it not being supported when you remove the gubbings so you might need an extra pair of hands to hold it all straight whilst you put the cup holder in.

However that's not the worse of it ... the hardest part is extracting yourself numerous times from between the seats whilst you're doing the work as it is very easy to get 'jammed in'! :D

... better go on a crash diet ... I'm not large but trying to work on them whilst between the seats and get my arms where I needed to, to get at the bolts etc, wasn't easy ... could've done with a pet octopus really ...

Oh, whilst I remember, when you take out the drop down locker door bit there are screws hidden behind the horizontal 'material' bit - you need to pull the metal retainer on the rear of it upwards to get it off ... it doesn't feel like it comes off but it does with a bit of effort.

I’ve done the crash diet, and am now 6 1/2 stone lighter, but still 6’ 4” tall and not narrow across the shoulders. But I am used to squeezing into small spaces.

Thanks for all the info. I’m sure it will make sense when I’m in there.

Completely agree with you on this one.

I was really disappointed to find the default fitting on the X290 was the cup-holder, instead of the really useful large lockable glovebox under the centre of the dash.

And like Minxy says, the cup-holder looks as though it just takes up valuable floor space in the cab.

Thankfully, Rapido had the sense (IMHO) to specify all of their Fiats with the original large central glove box, which I believe is an almost negligible additional cost option on a factory order!

I don’t find it large and never felt a need to lock it

We've always found it handy to chuck the sat-navs and other obvious bits and bobs that might be nickable in it. I realise anybody really determined could no doubt break into it, but just provides a bit more security from my perspective.

... just make sure you tell someone what you're doing so they come and check on you occasionally to make sure you're not permanently stuck there! :D2

Ohhh my god. It’s massive. Couldn’t believe the size of the box when I got home.

Looks like there’s plenty of work to fit it.
