England v India Cricket

5 days at Old Trafford!

And day one at the Oval!!

I was there on the 3rd (4th?) day at Lords in 21, when Bumrah(?) bowled his ten-ball over at Anderson. Fantastic theatre!

Looking forward to it.I was brought up on cricket. My father played for a team based in Southsea in Portsmouth. In my youth I visited every cricket pitch in Hampshire when he played. He was a policeman and his shifts revolved around Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday matches Home or Away. How I miss him.

First day at Old Trafford

I'm fortunate to be a short drive from the Tram, and then a 10 minute walk to the ground.

Got to the gates before 10, apparently a lot were late getting in. This year they were tagging bags which they haven't done before, maybe that contributed?

View from Block B, this will be my view Thurs-Sat.

Went round the ground and watched one of the England batters in the nets, Tresco throwing them down, think it was Bethell.

My view, front row E3, underneath The Point.

This is how I watched the 5 th day at Lords. Sat in a bar in Spain

IMG-20250714-WA0000.webp

I'm taking my younger son to the station for day 2 tomorrow.

He sent me a few pictures of randomly walking where he shouldn't at the 1st at Headingley.

My elder son is off to Australia for the Ashes at Christmas and I'm thinking I don't want to see any of his pics.

Good lads!

That's class it's a great sport to part of wether your a supporter or a village cricketer

It was a tough day for the bowlers, pitch was flat.

England will probably look to make a big first innings score .
Yep it looked hard going for bowling although it was over cast. Highlights showed some swing and the odd one keeping low?

It’s a fantastic tour even when you’re getting beat 5-0. We went to Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney. The Boxing Day test is something else, there was world record crowd of around 99,000 there that day.

Well I've kept up with the score on commentary most of day obviously, but the highlights were fantastic. England have the wickets in hand but it's still in the balance.
Stokes looked like I.T. with his bowling, body language and passion. It's nice to see him bowling at a great level again.

Day 2 at Old Trafford

But first a rant. What has happened to cricket watching etiquette?

I missed Stokes's LBW yesterday because some f***wit was trying to get past to his seat. Happened a couple of other times.

So twice today I made someone wait while I watched the delivery before I got up to let them pass. If it happens again I'm going to say something, and I'm the mildest-mannered bloke you could ever meet.

And it wasn't young people at their first match either. It was middle aged and older white men, most of whom will have gone to at least one if not dozens of matches in their lives.

I did appreciate the England staff, the young blokes (physios? support staff?) who bring the towels and drinks around the boundary for the bowlers. While walking round, both of them ducked down every time there was a delivery. That's consideration towards the paying public.

Aaaaanyway.....

Behind Old Trafford is a council estate with some great road names:

In the nets, I think this was Smith, difficult to tell. Again Tresco was throwing them down.

The 'Temporary' / 'Party' stand. Sold out today. I think its actually not as big as the one they had for the Ashes.

Today's view, a gloomy start and a shower before lunch, but it soon warmed up. Ali Mitchell recording for the BBC, and the India team warming up. I love getting there early to see everything going on.

What a player. I was here for his 254 against Pakistan, it's always a shock when he gets out, it just seems so effortless.

Mohamed Siraj, what a whole hearted cricketer, but plays with a smile on his face. He had some fun with us in the late afternoon.

A fabulous day's cricket!

Not many things better, the ashes probably.

It's an incredible match. Loved it yesterday when they got Ricky Ponting in the commentary box to be the pundit as Joe Root passed his total

My Dad was a cricket fanatic, when he stopped playing he umpired. Always knew when the start of the season was imminent as we’d be off to Weymouth so that my sister and I could collect the best 6 smooth pebbles for Dad to count the 6 balls per over.

We both did the scoring for the local cricket team . I even remember Dad umpiring a Viv Richard’s testimonial. Joel Garner played as well.

Only caught the highlights but very exciting stuff. Nearly back in the UK.
