No alarms.. any surprises?

Hi Funsters,
I’m a total noob here and enjoying all the learning that comes with new hobbies and new toys! I’ve just bought a second hand Benimar Mileo 282 (2018) and am trying to work out if there is an alarm in it. A mate advised finding out “the fun way” which was to lock it using the remote key fob while inside, and then move around after 30seconds… well.. no alarm sounded. I also tried remote locking with key fob outside, waiting, and then going in through the hab door (which doesn’t lock centrally… I have to use the hab key, I guess this is normal?) — again, no alarm. The flashy light on the fiat dash for the lock symbol is going so I guess.. something?!! But no alarm…
Should I be surprised? Just worrying that my insurer will claim I’ve misrepresented it as I said “factory fitted” (which as far as I can tell is true). Previous owner also stated it has one..

Lock symbol on dash is telling you the doors are locked.
No handover instructions or any service/user guide pack with any paperwork in to say if it has an alarm

There’s doubtlessly a factory fitted imobiliser which stops the engine being started without a key (although some perps might think otherwise )
There might be a factory fitted alarm on the cab door.
However, a hab alarm with switchable internal sensors will almost certainly be an aftermarket device and probably require a separate fob.

When setting your alarm you may have to give it longer than 30 seconds, I know the Vanbitz one goes through a sequence of checks when setting, if you interrupt it then it won’t set. Try giving it a bit more time, I’d lock the doors see what if any flashing lights you have, after about 2 minutes try opening your hab door

Aha so the cab door alarm would sound only if it is forced open or something?

I’ll double check the paperwork, but the fiat ducato handbook suggests there may be one “versions/markets, as provided” - unhelpfully!

My 2017 Citroën appears to have one which unhelpfully goes off sometimes when the Vanbitz Strikeback is disarmed

Look for something like this or a similar led light.

There is on most Fiat/Peogeots since at least 2015 (probably earlier).

However, much as useful for insurance, it's worth calling out it's near completely useless, given if you plug a tool into the OBD port you can reset it with new keys in about 20 seconds max, and saying the theives don't have these tools is ... rather dishonest.

If you are worried about immobilisers you probably need a Ghost, Meta systems or other third party immobiliser that actually will work.

No, I don't think it is. The central locking needs to lock the cab doors and the hab door.

99% of motorhomes will only have a factory fitted category 2 immobiliser as standard. Alarms and trackers are retro fitted if the customer has chosen to do so. Most insurance companies will ask for at least one of these but there are some that do not require anything further than the immobiliser.
When we install alarms we do not utilise the OBD port as these types of alarms can be bypassed in no time at all. We hard wire our equipment which prevents the potential thief from simply "unplugging" it in around 20 seconds. We also keep the alarm separate to the central locking as this is another way of a thief bypassing the system at ease. On some cases it is a easy as popping the lock, the central locking releases and in turn it turns off the alarm!

Mine does the lot, 2024 Citroen. Immobilizer too.

A warning though some will not sound if someone uses the screwdriver through door trick to unlock from outside as is known to happen in Eurpope. (as it looks like someone unlocking via a key)

If you don't have Proplates you could be vulnerable to that. It depends on the system installed.

Yes, as the screwdriver method activates the central unlocking + disables the alarm ( on the Factory fit alarm ).

Buy a new Hymer Exsis 'A' Class. It doesn't have that problem. No central locking !

Some times better not to have full central locking, you can open what door is best for you and that one only so nobody round the other side can get entry, the auto re lock found on some newer models can lock you out!!, not if the habitation door doesnt lock on central locking
