I think they are a damn site more dangerous than push bikes as they can do 30+ mph and usually driven by idiots. They have them here in Benidorm but insurance is needed. I suppose they are no more dangerous than push bikes, how many people do push bikes kill a year?
Blimey Robin, you are normally compassionate but putting the culprit in a crusher is unlike youOf course no sign of a policeman and someone on foot was never going to catch them. They should be stopped and put straight in a crusher.
And their bikes also! They should be stopped and put straight in a crusher.
The bikes too, I presume…….They should be stopped and put straight in a crusher.
I wonder how many people cars injure and kill? It's about 1000 times more.4 pedestrians were killed and 185 were seriously injured by cyclists in 2023. I suggest that there are now more of these scooters on the roads than two years ago.
I don't recall many cars driving at speed on pavements. I know they are sometimes allowed through pedestrianised routes - slowly - but I feel that in this day and age, that could result in tragedy eventually. Too many nutters about.I wonder how many people cars injure and kill? It's about 1000 times more.
Could probably solve both issues by making roads safer for all wheeled transport.

Couldn't give a $h1t attitude of scuzzy riderReasons for proliferation
………………….. ( insert any offence type here)
Lack of enforcement
Minimal chance of being caught
No effective punishment if prosecuted

Plenty of cars drive on to the pavement. Plenty of cars speed even when there's bikes about. Plenty of cars will quite happily drive into a bike lane to avoid a queue or to pass a car turning right. What's the difference? Except cars are about 100 times heavier and more powerful.I don't recall many cars driving at speed on pavements. Yes, drugs too. Though I have no proof, there are 'a number' of de-limited e-bikes, ridden my blokes in hoodies / masks that zoom round here at substantial speed, 30 - 40 mph at least, 'delivering' goods. Ruining lives with wacky baccy (or others stuff) is big business and worth the odd risk.Alcohol and E-Scooters combination are accidents waiting to happen, siting hire points outside bars and clubs just exasperates the problem.
They aren't assisted bicycles. They're illegal motorbikes. Many of them weren't ever legal and many are literally motorbikes as they don't have cranks and pedals.Yes, drugs too. They just need insurance thenThey aren't assisted bicycles. They're illegal motorbikes. Many of them weren't ever legal and many are literally motorbikes as they don't have cranks and pedals.
They're not road legal. They need type approval/MOT, plates, drivers licence, insurance, motorcycle helmet and lights. They're not even close to being ebikes. They just need insurance then![]()
Pause for thought - e-bikes, heavier and faster - therefore surely likely to be more dangerous than conventional bikes (unless the latter is being ridden by a Tour de France level athlete)? They have them here in Benidorm but insurance is needed. Oh yeah now you mention it. I think they are a great way to reduce emissions though, I'm surprised mad Ed hasn't promoted them. Also they are fun to ride, we hired 2 scooter things in Vichy France a few weeks agoThey're not road legal. An ebikes is limited to 15 mph and 250 watts. It's designed to assist. If they're legal, they aren't any quicker than a fit normal person. I have no issues keeping up with my wife on her electric Brompton when I'm riding a manual one. There's lots of pressure to increase the power limit because 250w is pretty poor, especially if you're heavier, there's steep hills or it's a cargo bike. The current power limit was specifically chosen to be low so ebikes aren't significantly more dangerous.Pause for thought - e-bikes, heavier and faster - therefore surely likely to be more dangerous than conventional bikes (unless the latter is being ridden by a Tour de France level athlete)?
