Campsite costs

That’s why I love Sweden and Norway! Mostly wild camping. In the summer of course.

Given our love for big mountains, passes, lakes etc and especially having the bike with us I would love to do Norway. Its just looks like a complete pain to get to. One day maybe. Nothing stopping us now we have a new van really.

There was no suggestion of that. The fact is that, like energy costs and raw materials, workers wages contribute to the price that products and services are charged out to customers. If you expect lower prices then something has to give.

Ian
Energy costs fluctuate, raw materials may cost more or less depending upon supply and demand situation, but the prices charged to customer rarely decrease.

The only pain I see is the ferry (or financially- the bridges), go for it (one day).

I respectfully disagree. Charging unreasonable (elevated, high) rates may be described by an emotional traveler as “ripoff”, “robbery “ or “racket” to express their feelings, what’s wrong with that? Many posters here describe Starlink Internet access fees as “ripoff”, I would say the same about the 2 bridge crossing form Denmark to Sweden. I cannot understand how it may be financially necessary to charge about 300 euros one way to cross 2 bridges in a motorhome. Lots of vehicles cross every day. My gut feeling says that they collect much more than needed for the maintenance. I might be wrong, but I doubt it. :-)
It's not just the maintenance though is it? It's also the cost of servicing the repayments on the, no doubt eye-watering construction costs. Again, I believe there are still alternatives addmitedly a lot less convenient ones.

Do you really believe that the price increases are done mostly to benefit the workers???
I haven't done a universal study but I know, from running my own business that labour costs are a major expense in most businesses. Increases in minimum wage are a benefit to workers.

I prefer to use the term personal choice. If you don’t like what is on offer don’t go there. It doesn’t make it a racket, robbery or a rip off.
Exactly. "Ripoff" is merely the shorthand that some use instead of saying "I don't see why anyone should charge more than I want to pay because I don't think it is fair if I don't get my way".

Maybe I should start a thread about it. It won't be this year as we have a full trip planned until November (already started) but it might make an interesting fact finding thread for the future, next year even.

They charge more because they want to earn more. Not because they need to. This is shown by the things, and amounts they charge. Such as costs for dogs, charges for extra people, charges for having and awning etc.

Just been quoted £50 a night for four nights at Henley on Thames caravan and motorhome club site .WHAT A RIPOFF.
We normally go to France or Spain.
Now I know why
Total rip off in the UK. Gave up membership to both clubs a while back. Europe all day long for us, better food, varied European culture and much better value for money even taking into account the ferry costs.

I've just checked the prices for a crossing tomorrow, using both bridges, £165 for a mh up to 10m. Various discounts available.

Booked le Shuttle return Sep/Oct......59 nights.....£399
Yes it maybe cheaper on the ferry but it's so simple with 2 dogs.
If prices continue to rise on UK sites ....it will kill Motorhoming. Our favourite site in Cornwall is now £40 a night.....

Cheers🍻

The bit that i find a p@#s take some sites charge extra for dogs wouldnt mind if they were taking them for awalk or feeding them

You know the price of the site before you go there. If it’s too expensive then don’t go . We use CMHC sites quite a lot ,the best ones like York and Henley are always pretty full so lots of use a happy to pay for the location .

There will always be anomalies and outliers.
Shopping around is always advised - no one supplier is always the cheapest be it widgets or accommodation

It's to cover the cost of picking up the poo of dogs with irresponsible owners.

Just crossed with a 6m van (but bike carrier and spare wheel makes us about 6.25m) and sterling prices were ; Storebaelt £26.32, Oresund £52.55. Have a Flyt tag and had registered for both crossings, but still had to stop at toll booths and pay by CC.

We just had a few days away and never bothered with the metered hook up. 600AH batteries and a 3kw inverter did the job with the solar topping up. Now very confident of the system
I’m should think you are with that much battery.

There was talk of reopening the Newcastle Bergen ferry route, but that seems to have died a death, looking at coverage.

I remember doing that when I was much younger. Great shortcut to getting to Western Norway.

Yes unfortunately my understanding is it has been dropped.

We are currently looking at campsites in the Swiss and Austria alps (where free overnight stops are not permitted). These sites are more expensive than the UK, so not everywhere in Europe is cheap!

If we want to go somewhere, in the UK or abroad, we accept that sometimes it might be free, sometimes cheap, and sometimes expensive…
We were in the Austrian Alps 3 nights ago, brilliant site, with elec 36€

So why live in UK why not just relocate if it's so crap here 🤔 typical brit slagging UK off but not doing anything about it. Why should workers in UK not earn a decent wage so we can have a decent services such as NHS, transport etc.

Nearly all EU sites charge for dogs, UK ones especially club sites dont
