Another consultation on restricting parking for Motorhomes in Scarborough

This time it is about the knock on impact from the previous bans in the north bay. Vans are parking in more residential areas so the survey is collecting opinions about that.

Will attach the survey link after this

Hmmm. The Facebook post was very biased against stop overs and appears to have been taken down since I saw it.

Sorry all!

It's the same in Whitby people are parking in residential roads near the marina since they stopped allowing parking there. I would be very surprised if it continues without some sort of restrictions being enforced.

Submitted, but I'd be surprised if it made any difference.
Personally I'd park at Sandsend, but Scarborough is a run down scruffy place, in which I'd not want to spend time in.

What a poor opinion you have, we visit often, tend to be day visitors or stay at the C&CC site, grandkids love going there always plenty to do from toddlers to adults. It is one of my 'go to' places if I want a few days chill out on my own. no more scruffy than any UK seaside resort, has had a lot of work done over the past few years..
Noticed Sandsend is also banning motorhomes.

I don't know how many times the council have banned parking at marine drive, scalby mills, sands end etc, it seems to make no difference.
I noticed some are still paying £10 to park overnight (coach fee) but sleeping in vehicles is still banned so if you would like to pay me instead I'll see the council don't get it .....oh, and all council carparks are free between 6pm and 8am.....but there's still no sleeping.

I’m pleased that you like Scarborough, it wouldn’t do if we all liked the same thing.
I really hope that NY councillors can find a workable solution for overnight parking, I promise I won’t take up any precious spaces!

We are in Lubeck. For 6euros we can park all day. It's free all night. We arrived here this morning and have spent at least 80euros, and that is before we find a nice traditional German bar this evening. We will probably stay tomorrow as the town is so welcoming. 3 parking places for motorhomes. Do UK destinations not realise the extra income business rate payers might be missing?

So how are the van police going to know if you’re sleeping ? If they knock on the door and I don’t answer how do they know I’m in there ? If they knock on the door and I answer, I’m not sleeping ? 😉😁

I agree - we have spent the last week in Germany and some excellent park ups for between €8 and €15 for 24 hours. All with servicing facilities etc… we went into towns for beers and food etc… I’m not sure why the UK is so anti-motorhoming.

The only place I have seen a forward thinking Parish Council in the UK is at Tintagel in Cornwall.

They encourage all the parking into (paid) carparks.
The encourage (paid) overnight stays and have some basic facilities.

The village is crowded with holiday makers, they dont have the parking problems other Cornish seaside villages suffer from and they make money from the parking and there are no boarded up shops.

Everyone wins, including the local campsite, which has the be booked in advance as it's usually full.

It's such a pity that many other Parish Councils don't follow their example, rather than doing the 'little england' bit, and not wanting 'outsiders' in the village.

My personal view is that it easier to ban something than implement and manage such facilities.
Helmsley is such a case, Ryedale closed it, under a “consultation” two businesses I spoke to were disappointed because of lost revenue, we lost out because we couldn’t park there and enjoy dinner and a bottle of wine.

kimndon We are planning Lubeck as one of our stops. Can you give info on the stopover please.

Cyberyacht. We arrived around 11am on Parking P2 (see S4S for coordinates), and got a space looking over the river. Wonderful city. If you are into museums go to the tourist information office and pay e12s each for a pass. Also get the city map in English. We took 2 days walking around the city. Had a Turkish breakfast at BackStore and good beers and food at Brauberger zu Lubeck. Thoroughly recommend this city.

My observations from being in Scarborough this weekend just gone, arriving Saturday and leaving Monday.
We stopped in the car park at North Bay, up the hill adjacent to Peasholm Park, there were 6 MHs there in total. We used the grassed area behind the tarmac car park which is also a pay and display but not marked and not used by cars so felt appropriate to stay there. £11.90 for 24hr parking with no signage indicating no overnighting, in fact one of the stayers spoke to a parking warden who said it was ok where we were. The grassed area used to be a swimming pool until a couple of years back when the building was knocked down and the pool filled in I was told, so its a bit bumpy. On the road further back there were also some MHs parked overnight
As for Marina Drive, I was surprised when I walked along there Sunday morning to see about a dozen or so MHs had overnighted. They ranged from an enormous American style RV (with slide out deployed) through Coachbuilts (with generator connected) all the way up to VW surf style vans with contents spilled out onto the grass verge. I wondered if they were just chancing it and hoping the council enforcers were not working weekends. Whilst most were parked across car parking bays, taking up between 3 and 5 bays, the whole of the Marina drive was empty from early evening to mid morning, so during this time they were not causing any inconvenience that I could see. What did surprise me though was to see some had stayed all day and overnight into Monday morning as well.
On Saturday evening we walked from North Bay to Scalby and had a meal in the nice pub there. Just across is a very nice car park location which would be ideal for overnighting, but this had prominent "no overnight camping" signs displayed. One of the pub locals told me this came in when (his words) "a gang of a dozen caravans invaded the car park and on their departure left it looking like a building site" How some signs stop this behaviour is beyond me, only law abiding citizens comply with signs in my experience.

Not stayed there but visited on the scooter a few times over our last few years down the south west and you are absolutely correct. They seem to have got it spot on there. Plenty of space for all to park, cars and vans, reasonable prices and its a lovely place to stop. Its a perfect model of what to do really.
