Black Water Disposal

We have the holding tank and macerator and just had 7 night in the lakes, tank is 250 litres though and was showing 25% when we dumped as we were leaving anyway, another week would have been no problem (y) I wouldn't want to go back to cassette.
I’ll second that.

We do not use chemicals, SOG type system, and use public loos when in the UK.

That would depend on how many times you sh*t, surely.
Mrs Gelly says I'm full of it so that's why we haul this behind us!:whistle2:

Can I ask how you discretely carry your cassette into a public toilet if it has a SOG vent? I presume this is open when you pull the hose off so you'd have to be careful not to hold it at the wrong angle?

You can always empty when you get home. 👍

I fancy trying a few days off grid but have concerns about the availability regarding the legal disposal of the cassette contents.

That, and how many days you plan to be off-grid.
If you can’t manage a few days off-grid without filling your cassette, then you’re doing it wrong. 😎

Ours had a bung to block the vent hole. Could use a cork if the bung has gone - but don't put it back in the wine bottle.....

I may well be doing it wrong, but I really cannot shit in a bag and save it for later. Nor can I use a bag to collect shitty toilet paper, it's more, if I were to suggest to my wife she needs to do this, the divorce will be quite quick on arriving. So we have two cassettes just in case, but I normally manage to find an emptying point on the third day and not need to use the spare. So no off grid excursions past 5 days (using both cassettes) for us 😀

With a 'relatively' conventional setup, 100L Fresh, 80L grey, single cassette, the two of us can manage 3-4 days before requiring a service point. If 'splash & dash' points are available one could remain off-grid more or less indefinitely. I also have a black jerry-can that holds 17L as an 'in extremis' backup.

Interesting - I think our Tecma is set so it uses a lot of flush water - I need to get to the trim tab on the back of the control, but I think they've used double sided tape, and its glass! We can do around 10days being careful I guess, but whilst the gauge is consistent it's isnt that accurate, so I tend to chicken out! Wouldn't bother with a tank less than 250l in future. The boat had 160l, but also an ocean - easily good for 10days on anchor before we had to go offshore.....
Look for places that offer over night stays sometimes with EHU…
Not sure where you are travelling, but if going North then Tebay Services (near Shap) has an excellent dump point, grey water and EHU set up -and you can use their hotel and cafe shop too. We always stay there on way back from Scotland -closed in winter though.
And yes we carry a back up cassette but haven’t needed to use it yet 👍

Thanks for the info, especially that there is a map of disposal points.
My MH has a thetford cassette and have stuck to proper sites so far. I fancy trying a few days off grid but have concerns about the availability regarding the legal disposal of the cassette contents.
Don’t want to be a scumbag and pour it into a ditch. 😤🙄
We carry a spare Thetford cassette. Gives us an extra few days. There's a woeful shortage of disposal points in England. Loads in Scotland

I found this on Amazon and it is exactly the right size for a 250 cassette. It also fits under the MH front seating.(we dont have a garage) The handles clip it shut (so no accidental spillages) and no odours as a bonus! As it is black you can't see whats inside, but we all know what it contains!!! All other similar containers are see through, so you can see whats inside without having to open them.

Do what we do, go to France and Spain, waste points almost everywhere :ROFLMAO:
We really dislike motorhoming in the UK!
This! And not just France and Spain... Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Italy... I could go on! Sooo much easier off the island. I can’t get over how motorhoming just isn’t really catered for in the UK.

So OP, I guess best bet is to take a ferry to the mainland and enjoy a tour there ;)

does anybody know where the temperature gauge is for outside on a Hymer B588DL please
