Has anyone had to overstay the 3 months in Morocco..? Did they get a visa extension from a police station or pay the fine as they left..?

I’m sure I can recall some people overstaying when Covid hit although different circumstances..

The reason I’m asking is because if my Brazilian girlfriend can stay out of the uk for 6 months (180 days) then she will have 6 months with me in the uk when we come back.

OR do you think it would be easier to arrive back from France overstaying by a few days or weeks..?

I'm not sure how a Brazilian affects immigration or Schengen rules. :D (sorry)

She can stay for 6 months in the uk, 3 months in Europe and 3 months in Morocco, she will be here next week for around 7 weeks before we go to Europe for nearly 3 months then into Morocco for 3 months but because you arrive and leave countries on the same days it means you don’t full get the 90 day reset, I also will be overstaying from the Schengen zone by a few days..

Frankly it’s all a bit of a shuffle that doesn’t quite fit because of 2-3 days…

So in theory once she is back in the uk by perhaps two days early she will have to leave instantly whereas if we could delay coming into the uk by a couple of days she could stay for 6 months within the uk..

I think I have the answer…. Just over 2 1/2 months in Spain over to Morocco for 3 months (nearly 90 days) back into Spain and then 10-15 days to drive to Bosnia, stay there for 10-15 days which will reset Schengen then we’ll have 80 or so days to get back to the uk.. 🤔

When we were in Morocco last year we met people who flew to the Canaries for the day which reset their Moroccan three month visa. All done with low cost airlines. Might be worth investigating.

When you enter Morocco your vehicle is recorded on your visa. When you leave Morocco you have to have your vehicle with you otherwise you have to pay tax on the value of the vehicle. it used to be possible to leave your vehicle in a Customs bonded area at Marrakech airport which could get round this rule. Not sure if this is still possible or how much form filling required or the costs.

As makems says, it’s also the insurance technicalities to deal with too, I’d rather drive around Europe to to solve the problem..

But it looks like I have with a drive to Bosnia, pay the border insurance for the van and park up for a couple of weeks means that when we go back into Europe we will have a leisurely drive back and once back in the uk she can stay with me for nearly 6months then back off to Brazil…

I could effectively go back into Morocco after a few days in Spain but that would be like Groundhog Day.. still I like a bit of adventure and this trip will certainly give it..😎

Yes that’s what I thought but these people just left their van at the airport/campsite and picked it up on their return. I think it’s worth investigating even if as you say you need to leave your van in a bonded area.

Can I ask what might seem a daft question.

Why can’t she just stay in England on an indefinite visa.

Or one that renews every 6 or 12 months?

Why doesn’t she set up a small business saying a cleaning firm.

Plenty seem to get around staying here doing that.

Just a thought 🤔

Yes, when I’m actually in Morocco I will investigate the possibility of extending our stay there, I have read reports of people going to a police station and getting it extended and was pretty straightforward and a small cost but as always it may be different once there but if we could do that and stay in Morocco for an extra week or so would be so much easier …😎

Sounds exhausting. Thinking the unthinkable - you could make an honest woman of your Brazilian girlfriend! Problem solved. 😀

Trust me I’ve looked into it and have even had a consultation with an immigration solicitor..

Yes, we will eventually get married but she needs to learn a lot more English as it’s an expensive process, with English tests biometrics and the visas for her to stay here and the process takes over 5yrs of further visas and conditions…

I suppose I could just leave her at Calais with a dingy….😆😎

My brother married his Brazilian girlfriend in March this year but as she works for the Brazilian embassy she already had a visa.

Crickey!

Apologies for my flippant remark. I hadn't realised it would be so involved and drawn out.

Good luck to you both. (y)

She will certainly notice the weather, they’ve had temperatures of 50c last week in Manaus…🥵😎
I have read we are going to have a really bad winter this year. Tell her to get some thermals:giggle:(y)

Thank goodness ... I though you were wanting to stay longer in Morocco to find a good looking camel! :giggle:

Oops, mixed you up with Northernraider 😄

I don't think I could stand 3 months in Morocco 2 was bad enough. The Geordie couple I met had to stay 3 months there and were practically suicidal by the time they left.
If you've not been before Just smiffy be prepared that you may not like it so might be good to have alternative plans just in case. Montenegro was a nice non shengen country

Another possible alternative way to do the Schengen shuffle to get you some extra non-Schengen days, but remain out of the UK would be to return from Morocco using the Bilbao - Rosslare ferry and having a week or two in the Irish Republic before returning to the UK via Rosslare - Fishguard / Pembroke Dock ferry. This way you don't have to risk overstaying in either Morocco or Schengen to keep your girlfriend out of the UK for more than 180 days.

Instead of driving all the way to Bosnia for the sake of 10-15 days could you have a short stay in Andorra?

I’ve just read up on that and you maybe right, some more investigation I will do… thanks..😎

Does my time in Andorra count towards my 90 days in the Schengen Area?

No. But maybe! For most people, 90 days in the Schengen Zone every six months is plenty, so there’s no actual requirement to get “stamped out” when you cross the border into Andorra (leaving the Area) and “stamped in” going home when you cross the border (back into the Area). However this means that officially you will have spent those days in the Schengen Area and will be used from your allowance.

The 90 days from 180 in the Schengen Zone are counted when you officially enter or leave the Area, so if you need to be careful about the number of days you use up, such as if you are a regular traveller for your job, then you’ll need to make sure you stop at the border to get your passport stamped.

Passport Stamps La Seu

How do I get my passport stamped to leave the Schengen Zone?

To get your passport stamped just stop at the French or Spanish border crossing and ask to be stamped out of the Schengen Area. It is a very common thing to happen, so the border guards will know exactly what you’re wanting.

If you’re arriving/leaving on a private or a shared transfer, just let your driver know well in advance that you need to stop at the border and it’s no problem to do this.

However, if you get your passport stampted to leave the Area on the way in to Andorra, make sure you do the same leaving Andorra to get stamped back in to the Area, otherwise you may run into issues when you next pass through a border crossing.

Going back to the previous example, if you arrive on a Saturday and go home the following Saturday, but you get yourself stamped out/back in as you cross the border you’ll only be using two days of your allowance rather than eight days.

Important note: it’s the French or Spanish police who will stamp your passport and not the Andorran police. When you arrive at the border this means it’s the first set of poice you’ll come to.

Will I get a passport stamp going into Andorra?

Only if you ask. As a rule you won’t get your passport stamped coming into Andorra, however if you stop and ask then the border guards will stamp your passport on entry. You cannot get your passport stamped at the tourist office.

Could she not hitch a ride on one of the many dinghies crossing the Channel ?
She could then stay indefinatley and get free board and lodgings too. 🤔
