What's This For, Please?

I have a suspicion that the elastic cord is a red herring, the padded board is likely there to prevent you rubbing the wall board as you get in and out of the bed and I think someone has put the elastic on afterwards, possibly to hold magazines etc. Does the cord move up/down and pull off completely?

Could this be the thread that defeats the collective knowledge of the Funster community? I'll be watching with baited breath and yes, (or rather, no) I've got no idea what it is for either.

You may be right! It's such a confusing thing. Slightly padded, covered in velour, an odd shape, with black elastic things on it. Come on peeps, keep pressing and guessing!!

Go and have a tug then! 😄

The elastic goes all the way round to the back, between the wall and 'it', so would have to have been removed for the elastic to be fitted....but it doesn't come off the wall. Magazines would simply slide through the elastic things and fall onto the floor. The elastic does not move up or down and the whole thing does not come off the wall.

It definitely doesn't come off the wall and it has elastic things on it. Also, if that was its purpose, why would it be shaped like that? It's a very odd thing
Is it where the Butler hangs the ironed Times in the morning? 🤔

It would be that shape because the overcab roof generally is that shape on most vans

Is it fixed from behind? If not then it'll likely be on Velcro or some flat slot on fixings which can be very tight ... Have you had your Wheetabix? 😄

Did you get the van new? Or, is it hiding something (damage) on the wall behind it?

We didn't buy it new but the velour matches the seats. There's also a picture of another similar model to ours on the internet and it has the same thing.

Looks like it should have hooks at the top for hanging coats.
Perhaps you tuck the coats in behind the elastic to stop them swinging about when driving.

It's definitely fixed to the wall. I have no idea how, as the shower unit is on the other side.

It's a holder for your gimp suits and other BDSM paraphernalia, obviously.

Yes, I've seen that picture before but ours has no hooks and no sign of any ever being there.

Okay as it seems it was an original fitment I suspect it was the idea of a bright spark designer thinking it would be useful for newspapers etc but the translation to actual production meant they used too loose cord to make it do as intended, if it ever would have of course! 🙄

You could be right. It's ended up as useless talking point :)

I’m still thinking ironing board ish, with the bands going under to holding it in place?

Sorry I know you said “It doesn’t move”
I wonder if it is fixed by sliding clips. Have you tried sliding it upwards? It might take a hefty jog to release

We have a switch in our MH and asked Autotrail what it was for, they advised overhead concealed lighting. They have no idea either as it there is another switch that does that. We keep switching it on and off but still can't find what it operates! Been driving us nuts since we got the MH🤪

We had similar on a static van and it was decorative. It was fixed with slot fixings and a single screw only visible when I laid on the floor. Took the screw out and a thump upwards took it off. In the static it covered the access point to the shower pipework.

You haven't found the Chinese tracker yet then? 😆

Obviously the other lighting is very well concealed. 😄

Having seen another picture now. I think it is partially decorative but also to provide a little "friction" when getting into and out of bed. Plain wood might be slippy and a safety issue.

As for the elastic. I suspect this might be a cost saving measure. If they had used some kind of cloth tape there would have been a safety issue if it wasn't fully attached.
You might get a leg caught in it. Sooo. They had a choice. sew the ribbon/tape all the way across on all 6 places or use elastic that has give in it. Perhaps they tried sewing it but it crinkled the backing and made it look bad?

Without the elastic/tape etc it may have looked a bit too plain.

Guesses on guesses :)

It's definitely not an ironing board. It's slightly padded, with velour covering :)

It definitely doesn't move up, down or any other way.

Just decorative then - but may cover the access to the shower plumbing. You could hang a magazine or book on it if elastic was put between the pages. It might also retain a walking stick or umbrella or a dog lead.

IKEA have coat hooks

that might hand over the top and make it more practical.

The shower plumbing is on the outside side of the MoHo, so it can't be behind this 'thing'.

I couldn't possibly put hooks on it as, in my mind, it would be 'damaged' and 'not how it should be'. I struggle with things like that. I'm happy with it as it is, even though it serves no purpose :)

Do you sing in the shower? Could it be sound deadening that your partner has installed? 😄

Hahahaha :roflmto: There's nothing he does that I don't know about because he wouldn't dare do anything without permission :roflmto::roflmto::roflmto:
