Dieppe aire

For maybe 20 years before the Covid business I've stopped many times at the one on the prom and the one a couple of hundred yards from the the port and never seen any migrants nor had any other problems on either of them.

The aire on the prom (7 euros in 2019) is the best with a lovely view and 5 mins walk from Deppe centre. The one nearest the port is a bit bleak and really just an overnight stop.

There's a lovely quiet rural camp site now owned by a delightfully relaxed young French couple just 5km (a max 10 mins drive) from the car ferry and an easy drive around the ring road. I've been staying there as a pre and post ferry stop for the past 10 years.

Stayed on this Airedale’s for 2 nights on our way home in October. Lovely and popular. Dieppe is well worth exploring. We had a night time sailing so parked on the queuing area for the ferry. No problem - they even knocked on the motorhome before loading.

A bit further out from Dieppe, about 30 mins we stayed here, it’s free and also has hot showers, electricity empty and fill, nice rural aire, albeit not a lot around you

Not far from Dieppe ,Le Treport ,excellent "Aire de Camping Cars" .Nice stroll into the harbour n& restaurants along the river bank .Fantastic fish restaurants along the quay & food shops behind .

Stayed on the Aire nearest the ferry terminal exit and never again. We arrived at 11pm and although there was around 30 vans it had its fair share of locals/immigrants trying handles and sneaking around. Not sure whether they were on the Rob or wanting to hitch a ride to come to the UK. Some were fishing nearby with loud music on. We ended up moving inland. Personally it’s put us off overnighting near to ports but others may not be bothered.

Yes, we've also stopped there. Depends on how much time you've got. We often stay at the aire by the port and have seen no migrants there, but it's usually very busy!

When was that?
They were there a few years ago but they moved them on to Cherbugh, we stopped using the Aire after they jacked the price up.

Surprised to hear that . We always go by ferry to Dieppe, to have lunch with a friend from Rouen and we have never had any bother.

Yes, cutting through the hedge into the aire. Stood watching in groups at us when filling up with water at the bourne. Working their way between motorhomes trying handles and looking under bike rack covers.

If we're referring to the same place I've stayed there many times and never seen any of that.
Can't see why they have to make such an effort to get in as they can walk in in off the road using the the main entrance or the zebra crossing.

No fences and plenty of gaps in the 'hedge'.

Those pictures bring back happy memories.
We like to arrive on a Friday then toddle into town for a meal at the Newhaven. Back for a nights sleep then back into town for the Saturday market. Happy days

What do you make of #17 then?!
Actually very suprised. Have stayed there a couple of times when it was very busy, and again in December the last two years , when it was pretty much empty and have never seen anyone in there looking suspicious. Perhaps we were lucky or the other posters unlucky.

I was party to much havoc when staying at the Hotel Newhaven with 6 teachers and a herd of 20 over-excited kids from the local junior school. (Their art mistress was gorgeous).

Something of everything at the market.
Here you are - a bit more nostalgia............

 I had to look a lot of handbags and shoes as I was with the art mistress. (The things we do for lust, eh?).
She kept saying exactly that: "A handbag?"

Not sure what that says about me....or her?

Lol good point

What if one arrives in Dieppe from the UK very late at night, can you disembark from the ferry and stay in port till daylight or somewhere very close?

We've always done the overnight crossing. We use our over 60 discount to have a cabin. Land at 5 30 am and nice empty roads
