East Scotland anything there ? (1 Viewer)

Hi we are planning on doing the east of Scotland probably from Edinburgh towards Aberdeen heading north then Inverness and lochness before either north again or west, we've been all over the west up as far as Skye so want to try different parts. I've been to Ness and applecross myself but is there much to see or do over the eastern side ? Beaches, lochs, hills, forests and castles, history is liked but maybe a bit more for kids and the Mrs will be needed. Ta.

Take a spinning rod and you can fish for sea trout off the wall in front of your MH. The fish gather there before moving up the river.

Leaving Edinburgh you can head for Falkirk where there is the Wheel (others there now). Stirling Castle is also worth a visit as you get a wonderful view of the Forth winding towards the sea.
Over the Forth bridges takes you up to the fishing villages of Fife. Anstruther (for fish and chips), Crail (lobster cooked at the harbour) and Pitenweem all worth a visit. Keep your eyes open for PYO strawberries and rasps etc. Next up is St Andrews where you can park by the beach and explore the town. The ladies putting green is worth a shot. Inland is the Scottish Deer Centre and Falkland Palace (hunting lodge of the Stuarts). There was a meet recently in Auchtermuchty so find and read that thread for their escapades in the area.
Dundee has a number of museums and the Discovery which was one of the ships which took Scott to the AntArctic. Arbroath is famous for Smokies (smoked cod) and seafood as well.

Thanks, we did Stirling last year it's still a great place to visit after about 15 years since the last visit we made there, which bridge the forth ? near Edinburgh takes you over to the other side heading NE ?

No you can't, height barriers in place. Motorhomes are not wanted in St Andrews. Try silver sands in Aberdour and stay overnight at Lochore Meadows for £10 a night, water and dump facilities. A great park to visit with golf, angling and great nature reserve.

St Andrews castle is good for kids in that is is small but with a bottle dungeon (doesn't take too much imagination to feel how a prisoner would) and subterranean passage where invaders tried to dig their way into the castle.

You dont say when you're coming but there is a meet in Fife at Auchtermuchty 15 to 17 September see rallies Scotland meet in Fife, you will be very welcome.

I'm afraid we'll miss that were planning on leaving around 20th this month but may need to be back by 11th if I can't talk daughter out of wanting to be back home for birthday ! I have usually managed to change her mind on past trips with exciting things to do on tour but I've not found much to bribe with so far
Maybe a bit of island hopping on ferry will work ?

Edinburgh site booked for couple of nights to kick off from, didn't have time to show our girl around hollyrood house last year so good excuse to go back, I like it there.
Looked at a few stops at St Andrews now I've seen on map it's not that far from Edinburgh and in the general direction of travel so will try finding a place not to far out there.

Another vote for Port Erroll, when we were there last month the toilets were locked, there was a water tap. The notices suggest a donation of £10 a night, which I would have given if the facilities were open, I left £5 with a note as to why.

There's also the Highland Wildlife Park which, after taking 2 buses & then walking quite some way (left the van at the campsite though of course you don't need to do that) decided not to go in. It's not highland wildlife; it's a wildlife park in the Highlands, & personally I don't like to see animals outside of their comfort zone (polar bear, camel, tiger etc). Others feel they do a good job for conservation.

Maybe head Aberdeen, Dundee way unless we fancy anything found a bit further up the coast, then cut across inland cairngorns ? towards Inverness . If not much north of there follow lochness along and head for the west coast ? Will wild where we find nice spots alongside lochs, use cl sites and the odd main cc or other camp sites.
