Hi - we are at our wits end - our Peugeot Boxer radio comes on at odd times and when it feels like it. Even when we are parked up with no key in the ignition! As it is kept in storage for weeks at a time without use, we have gone to use it and had a flat battery. Short of disconnecting the radio what can we do? Help would be appreciated!

Hi Sueb and welcome from another Narfooook resident.
Your radio will normally use a small amount of power when turned off to keep it's code and any clock, as will any alarm fitted to your m/h.

Depending on whether or not you have an alarm that you want to keep active. what about fitting a battery isolator switch?

Says it all....

With ign off there are still parasitic loads on the battery which could see it flat within 2 to 3 weeks or less.

Best solution is disconnect the engine battery when in storage.
It will still go flat due to self discharge, all batteries do, but could take many months.

Forgot about the radio.
Sounds like it has a fault causing it to turn itself on.

But that isn't the only cause of the flat battery.

At the risk of stating the obvious it sounds like the radio is faulty. But perhaps a poor connection somewhere is giving it an intermittent power supply, and when comes on the radio also comes on - like my phone lighting up when I plug it in to charge.

I had a problem with my radio, what year is your motorhome?
As said could be faulty radio or under the dash in front of the driver, there is a plug and socket that takes the loom through to the engine bay, I had corrosion on this plug and socket causing an intermittent radio and interior light.

Was a newbie, now a Middie.
Mine was the same. At last, I found it was fitted with a timed alarm system, which you can disable. (y)

Yes it does have the RDS/EON setting - I did wonder this, but the radio keeps on - if it was the RDS it should shut off after the travel report.

The more I read the more I see the same problem with different motorhomes. What a pain!
