Oh dear you lot are really making us green with envy. We also enjoyed the campsite at Alvor. We are going back next year. So please do not drink all the booze.

In the local bars in Conceicao a 33cl bottle of Sagres is 90c or at the posh place €1, Prato do dia varies from €5 to €7.50 usually including wine and coffee.

Branded beers such as Sagres or Super Bock are expensive at full price but the supermarkets always have one or other on offer, usually works out around €1.50 a litre or there is always Aldi or Lidl cheap beers at around 90c/litre.

Bought a chicken in the supermarket for €1.48 a kilo, on offer from the ridiculously exorbitant normal price of €1.98/k. Lamb chops on offer at €8.99/k.

Diesel in Tavira is €1.18, cheap place in Ayamonte (Spain) is around €1.09, hardly enough to make me change my plans.

If you think those prices are expensive try Italy or France , Italy Diesel €1.30 to €1.50.

I should'nt have read your posts because, after saying we wouldn't go abroad again after I had a TIA in Egypt, I got the bug again and have booked a flight holiday , covering my Birthday and Xmas, for two weeks at the Dome Jose hotel in Quarteira!!!.

Gazole average price from Strasbourg to Dieppe around €1.11 to €1.13 at the moment unless you stray into a motorway services..

When i mentioned the cost of diesel in Italy it was simply an example of the costs there, not specifically comparing the cost of diesel in Portugal with the cost in France which I know is roughly the same as in Spain.

Examples of the more general cost differences would be the cost of coffees, beers etc particularly in France.

In Vila Real de Santo Antonio recently 2 strong coffees with a little milk, tosta mista( croque monsieur), and 2 natas(small custard tart) was €3.25. You wouldn't even get 2 espressos for that in most places in France.

In the village near our site and in most places around Taviraa 33cl bottle of Sagres or Super Bock beer is €1........most places in France €2.40 upwards for 20cl

@cruiser Yes It's been a while, but we have been going to meets, but mainly in the Lincs area because we bought a static caravan there when we thought we might give up motorhoming. Of couse we couldn't so we split our time between the bungalow in Notts and the caravan at Mablethorpe and meets with MHF!!! We arebooked for Chester next year so we may see you there.

In my continuing series of keeping those Johnny foreigner types from raiding your pocket, can I suggest that those coming to Portugal put the following site into your 'Favourites' when route planning.

Intermarche (Yes the french one) are selling Diesel at up to 14p a Lt cheaper than the alternative.
In addition, the Intermarches tend to have an Aire de Service for getting water and dumping at their garages.

Also, keep an eye out for 'PRIO' garages. They sell their fuel a little cheaper than most.

Have to disagree there - I used my UK credit card to buy diesel at the Intermarche in Sagres on Saturday

Seems like you've got the 'wrong' type of card Maxi. Try a Hx clarity card. Right on the money for exchange rate and no fees either.

On the ferry in Santander waiting to sail home!

A really good trip - thoroughly enjoyed Portugal especially Fuseta and Alvor - stayed at the "Elephant Aire" near Santander last night - very good!!

Sad it is over but 8 weeks on Sunday we are scheduled to be back on the ferry to Santander for an 8 week trip to Spqain and possibly Portugal!!

The cheapest in Tavira at the moment,not supermarket, is €1.144 but most are around €1.19

Jumbo and I expect Intermarche supermarkets charge 1.099 at the moment, Prio filling stations are at 1.149 and top of the bill BP 1.247 to 1.189. The current socialist government has pumped up fuel taxes to pay for their spending boom so prices are close to the UK

We found them at the post office before we went. We got a better price than in Portugal. When are you going. And where. Nosy git arnt I @panda . But please have a great time we did. Going back to Elver next year.

Change your money from pounds to euros and euros to pounds anytime, anywhere (you have internet connection) at the bank to bank exchange rate at the time... and no charges what so ever.

You tend to get the best rates for pound to euros cash in the UK and the other way in Portugal. For the last 10 years pluswe have used Fairfx prepaid card, topping up online is easy, the rates are in general very good and you can use them to transfer from your account to another for big bills again at almost zero cost. They like most of the others make no charges for using the card though they do pass on cash machine charges made by the machine owner. For straight cash in the UK the Post Office is usually OK but Ramsden the gold buyer and some of tha payday loan companies often beat them

Hopefully progress, they never took it in Ferrerias when we were there and Jumbo would not take mine a couple of weeks go in Lagoa.

Yes,after I thought about it,the intermarche used to send me back to the main store to get cash!

Progress indeed, at 1.10 euro /litre I will not complain,
At least the bloody rain has stopped.
