Today we came back to Retford but this time we've come to a CS a little further away at the Blue Bell Inn at Lound.

Martin made a friend on the way to our walk.

IMG_20160829_142735612.jpg

We then walked on the northern part of the Idle Valley water reserve.

Before coming back to the CS and having a beer before our evening meal.

If you've been cycling it seems your wife is OK after her tumble?

yes she is fine thanks ,her confidence is still a bit thin but getting better,we had an absolutely fantastic ride through longshaw ,i think you and your wife would like it very much, its also good walking territory ,i saw lots of climbers and budding climbers on the rock faces, theres even an iron age fort and a visitors center

We're winding down our trip in the UK and stocking up on all the bits and pieces we want to take back with us, mainly tea bags!

We went for a picnic in Clumber Park yesterday with my mum.

IMG_20160831_125737401_HDR.jpg

We went back to camp at the Fisheries again as it's so convenient for us.

We're having the weekend at Sherwood Forest on a weekend meet and then catching the night ferry from Harwich to Holland on Tuesday.

The fisheries are at Retford. Hallcroft Fisheries and campsite. It's at the back of the recycling plant so doesn't sound good but it's nice when you get there. It's adjacent to the Idle Valley nature reserve.

One of the fishing ponds on site.

Mum lives in Retford so it's 10 minutes on bike to visit her.

We're now on a weekend meet of the C&CC at Sherwood Forest. Today we went for a walk through the forest. We set off early to try to beat the rain but didn't succeed. Even so we had an enjoyable walk.

We saw this fungus growing out if the tarmac at the side of a track. Anyone know what it is and is it edible?

IMG_20160903_094612303_HDR.jpg

Hand shown for size only!

I wanted to go to look at the Major Oak to see if it had changed in the 10 years since we last visited. 10 years in the life of that tree is a blink of an eye!

For anyone that's never visited this area the information panels give all the details.

Looks like you've had a great trip in the UK and good to see Martin well on the mend.
I've been easing myself back into van life not doing too much driving per day. In busy Aire east of Rennes...Fougères with huge medieval chateaux, experiencing the very noisy annual fair ( mistimed that one !), heading towards Poitier area tomorrow. Will try and get a wee thread going here, but it takes up no end of my reserves at the end of the day dealing with communications technology ...once I reach San Sebastián will hole up for a few days to catch up.

Hi,

Good to see you're back on the road. You're ahead of us but I think we'll be in Totana before you. Looking forward to meeting up again. Maybe you can have a chat (with Martin) about internet options?

Today had a walk from the WM to Vicar Water where we found out there was a fun day in progress.

Coffee stop at Vicar Water

We are now on a CS at Bothamsall. A lawned area next to a river where there are otters and a kingfisher. We arrived to be greeted to a lady motorhome who told us it was her second day motorhoming. We've encouraged her to join FUN. Mick, the CS owner is showing her how to use her motorhome but she'll not be here for ever.

Didn't see the otters. Martin asked Mick for a part refund! Needless to say he laughed. The CS is beautiful. It's called Riverside Gardens and that exactly what it is. It has wooden benches placed to watch the river and even a wooden swing seat. It has a nice toilet, including good disabled facilities with a pull cord to an alarm.

Mick has been staying in his motorhome for the last few nights, he lives a couple of minutes walk away, while the lady motorhome newbie is there so she wasn't alone! I hope she joins FUN, she'll certainly need some advice in the next few weeks once she leaves the CS.

Now in Holland. After an extremely comfortable crossing from Harwich we had an easy drive to an ACSI site near Utrecht. We've been out cycling a couple of times. Yesterday we got lost!!! using Martin's new super duper quite expensive cycle GPS. I'm keeping my mouth firmly shut!

Today we worked out how the cycle routes around here work. Cycling from point to point using information boards and a number system.

We've just eaten a typical Dutch meal of Chicken Biryani with Murcian white wine!!!

We must be pitched next to the only Dutch couple who don't speak any English and of course they've come over to us to ask for information about cycle routes!

A standing joke with us is that Martin must have a huge I sign above his head because he's asked questions wherever we go.

Here goes at trying to put on a few photos.

Arrived on Camping de Peel, had a sandwich and went for a walk. The camping give out a booklet and, amongst other things, is information about walks. Outside the camping is post 80. The booklet gives a series of numbers and you follow arrows (similar to the cycle routes). We did a 7km route. All the arrows were in place and we made a safe return.

IMG_20160909_150840625.jpg

On the route we came to this bank of glass pigeonholes with products for sale.
IMG_20160909_135622528.jpg

Inside were various offerings, from jars of jam or six eggs to baskets of assorted items.

IMG_20160909_135643467.jpg

You put in the number of the door and pay the amount asked and the door opens.

Everything in Holland seems to be done by numbers!

The internet if "iffy" here. It goes off every 30 minutes and you have to read their Facebook page and then reconnect.

On our walk we passed a Dutch castle. Unfortunately private but there must be a Pokémon there cos there were a lot of kids with phones and tablets
What a nice idea, did you buy anything ?

No didn't take any money with us. Tomorrow we're on the bikes and money will be in the rucksack. Problem then will be carrying it back!
