The weather was better than forecast and its been dry but windy today.

We devised a walk incorporating sections of the Viking Way.

Bit worried about Martin walking under this tree in the windy conditions, with his recent track record of accidents I fully expected a branch to fall!!!

We had some walking on minor roads before connecting with another section of the VW through a golf course.

Collected some blackberries on the return route, we know we're safe with them! and had them after dinner.

Back to RETFORD tomorrow.
Can tell you are In the uk ! Martin is in long trousers!! A bit chilly!!

At 8 am today we went out for a short walk from the campsite at the fisheries. The site is adjacent to the Idle Valley nature reserve and we walked the short Lake Walk route.

Out of interest there is ample parking at the Information Centre. £1.50 for all day by donation! It could be possible to stay overnight in the parking area outside the Centre's gate!!!

There are various routes starting from the parking. Next time we'll do a longer one.

We're now at our friends house after having lunch at Wetherspoons. Not bad, especially for the price!

His friend has binoculars also but they've fallen down and are not visible on this photo!

I stayed at Hallcroft fisheries about 8 years ago whilst canoeing on the Idle, is it nearby?

Today we cycled on the Teversal Trail which took us through old pit areas which are now reverting back to nature.

The small lakes are attracting bird life and the hedges are becoming a haven for small mammals, especially the brambles, where people can't pass!

Friends have just gone out to deliver a car to their son. Martin is in control of their large, curved, TV with sound from all over and I'm sitting in the garden, with a G&T, reading FUN and watching the fish go by!

Dave is a keen fish person. Fisherman and fish owner. He has one that looks like a shark (Micky!) and lots of others in varying colours. They seem interested in me at the moment I think they probably expect me to feed them!

The meal at The Royal Oak was excellent. Traditional home cooked food.

I had steak and mushroom pie with boiled potatoes and mushy peas and Martin had steak and kidney pudding with potatoes and mixed veg. Sauces came in little dishes not sachets and there were real table cloths. Martin usually has a pud but not today!

Looks like 'proper food'
Did they do deserts ?
I'm 'sugar free ' at the moment and really missing deserts.
Please don't post any pics of the deserts if you have them cos it's my time to mount the 'scales of death' in the morning and I put on weight just looking.

I reckon £20 excluding drinks and tip

Edit:
On a serious note I feel like a new man since I gave up sugar, after watching 'The Sugar Film'

They did do desserts but I don't! Martin normally does but couldn't manage one today.

The two meals were £7.70 each. We had a beer each and bought half a dozen fresh eggs! Total cost £25 including tip.

After a digestion rest and in a brief dry spell we went out for a short walk. Just up from the pub a minor road led to a newly surfaced bridle path from where we took a footpath down to the Linacre reservoirs. Been many years since we were last here and we'd forgotten how nice it is even in the misty conditions.

It was dark in the woods tho'!!!!

What a difference a day makes. From the rain on Thursday to a beautiful day on Friday and back to rain today.

Yesterday arrived at the THS. The ground is very wet but we managed to get a dryish spot. Funny no-one else has chosen this particular part of the field!!!

We had a short walk yesterday.

Today we cycled on the Monsal Trail. We managed to get to the end of the trail before the rain (not forecast by the BBC!) started. Luckily we carried waterproofs.

The trail was difficult to ride due to the numbers of people and it being a Bank Holiday. We decided not to cycle back on it but to use the minor roads instead.

One of Martins old haunts

There are some climbers just preparing to start to climb. 10 minutes later the heavens opened!

Look forward to seeing you again. Saw your thread about your route south. Sent some bike info. Hope you're happy with your new motorhome. Will want a guided tour in winter. Heard from David a few weeks ago, hope his op goes well and we see him also in January.
