After our short stroll to the waterfalls yesterday we felt the need to do something a bit more physical. We found a walk on the web which sounded more like it! The only other option was a walk recommended by the campsite. 4km in 4 hours!!!!

Anyway, both these walks started off on the same route. What they didn't say was that the four kilometres were up hill. And by uphill I mean uphill, no zigzags here! And they didn't say that the four kilometres left you up the hill so you still had to walk back down. So we did the four kilometre route which wasn't anywhere near four kilometres, more than double that, with about a thousand metres of climb. BUT it was a good day out!

The rickety rackety bridge was sturdier than it looked but very slippery.

From "the top". There was an alternative, drive up and walk 200 metres to here!

The road from "the top". Our return route is the thin diagonal line below the road.

We are now on a free aire at Serrieres en Chautagne. It's rated highly on Camper Contact so we expected more, but it's OK and we could cycle from the aire onto the ViaRhona cycle way. This goes for many kilometres down the Rhine. We did 17km out and then turned round and rode back.

We have been lucky with the weather. We didn't expect it to be dry for the whole of the trip and we only got wet twice!!!

We'll still complain about no rain when we get back to Totana though. Apparently they are dismantling all the stone barbeque areas in Sierra Espuña as a preventative measure. Sad in a way as they're always well used at weekends but needs must! Better to keep the forest.

They've done that in most places. The ones in the areas up by both dams above Lorca have been gone for some years. Also the ones above La Parroquia near the marbles quarries.

Last year they were dismantling them in Espuña. It's taken them until now to do it!

Hi
You'll be in Totana long before me! Have just spent my first week in Portugal traveling from Miranda do Douro thro' Montesinho Parque and Peneda-Gerês Parque to Braga, where I'm staying in the Campesino Municipal, for a few days to catch up on 'living in a van chores'. Weather distinctly chilly in the Parques, but then altitude of 1000m +, so warm sunshine of Braga was a blessing, but today the Atlantic mist has rolled in and it's cold!
Not able to login frequently, did you receive the link I sent you to my travelogue Trackmytour?
Don't think I'll be on Cabo de Gata until November, unless Portugal turns very wet/cold or I just get fed up of moving around; but once there will contact you and come up to Totana....will be good to catch up. In the meantime hope weather has improved wherever you are.
Hi,

Good to see you're back on the road. You're ahead of us but I think we'll be in Totana before you. Looking forward to meeting up again. Maybe you can have a chat (with Martin) about internet options?

Good to hear from you. Enjoy Portugal. We'll see you when you arrive (in Totana). You know where we are at present, sloooowly making our way to Cuenca for the middle of October then back to Totana.

Keep in touch when you can!

You didn't read the postings around 3rd July then.....the title of this thread is Jumars Summer trip re-started....
Oh I did read about that painful episode - and very glad to see recovery is well on the way... but I'd categorise that as a "disaster"...
...no biggie, I was just thinking about the more mundane "going wrong".
I don't know - the less than spectacular views after a day's walk, the less than picturesque pitch on a campsite, a poor meal etc.

Now, please, don't go searching these things out  ,
I love the good bits best .

@Langtoftlad you put the kiss of god on us today. We had a terrible ride. We are on lovely campsite near Chambery, and there are supposed to be cycle routes from here through Chambery, around and back. The getting to but was lovely.

IMG_20160922_125043621.jpg

View from behind the campsite.

But as we neared Chambery it all went pear shaped and we ended up in all the traffic in the city. We eventually decided enough was enough and backtracked and headed back the way we started. Even though we still had good views as we neared the campsite again.

We had our walk up the Mont St Michel today. Sorry to say no major problems except for a few missing markers at junctions.

It has been a perfect autumn day with a cool morning but then a lovely sunny afternoon. It's getting cool again now so will be shutting the door soon. Tomorrow we'll move on again, don't know where yet!

IMG_20160923_105149018.jpg

Not sure its safe for Martin here!

Our return route brought us through part of Challes les Eaux which is the actual town where we are staying. The town is visited for its casino.

And its thermal baths.

There are a few parks with small lakes, this one we passed. You can just see the chapel high above on the hill.

Another view across the lake.

There were people but not many. Can't believe I got photos without anyone in them! It's the end of the season in France and many places are shutting down around us. The campsite is closing on Sunday even though it normally stays open for a bit longer.

We're now at an ACSI site at Albertville. The prime reason for being here is to cycle the traffic free cycle route to Annecy which we are going to do tomorrow, although as it's 44km there we may only cycle 34km as we have to think of the "posteriors" on the way back. 88km sounds a bit painful on the rear ends!!!

However, today we did a bit of shopping. Martin bought his new Sat Box! and I bought food from Lidl!!! We arrived on site, had lunch, Martin had a play with his new toy and then we walked up the Mediaeval village of Conflans. There were a few people around @Anthea M but not many, even for a Saturday.

Quickly skip past that to a photo of the gardens. There is a person and a dog in this shot, can you see them?

No not Martin.

Breaking news. We now have TV again :) and :(. The satbox was the problem of the spinning dish and the new box has solved the problem. I self banished myself to sitting reading on the bed to get as far as possible away from X Factor last night :LOL:. But Martin is a happy bunny now and it didn't cost too much!!!
