Thanks again. Are the ali brackets you use better than the plastic ones that most sell?

No better or worse but I make my own. However I moved on and now mount them toe in and use a pan head screw upwards through the base to ensure the minimum adhesive thickness

Neat job.

Would you use the same method on a steel panel van roof, or something different?

What size are they please and where do you get them from? Most stockists only seem to supply up to 50x50 ali angle. What is the minimum adhesive thickness recommended please and which Sika product to you? Sorry for all the questions.

That's fine thanks. Using these brackets toe in would give me more room between my rooflights so I may be able to fit in one large 200W panel rather than two smaller 100W. Is there any disadvantage with having one large rather then two small, because the wiring would be easier.

I've bought from that guy, delivery was good arrived via DPD, and you can track it.
Mine were branded as from this company http://www.enjoy-solar.de Checking on the enjoysolar web pages the ebay guy is 99cents cheaper including postage, this would be different is you buy in quantity.

For 35mm frames I use 2.5"x1.5" 165mm long
For 30mm frames I use 2"x1.5" 165mm long

You get 6x 165 from a 1 metre length allowing for the blade thickness
I buy from David Kenyon or Tim at ebaysales@forwardmetals.co.uk
I bought 24 for £48 individual price will vary according to postage

3mm minimum thickness for adhesive, I use 512

Two x 100 is better than a 200
One man can easily man handle and fit 100 watt units alone
Postioned eaither side or down one side they are easy to reach and clean
Shading on a single panel can decimate ouput, two panels reduce shading effect
Damage to one big panel = total loss

Solar panels

I'm struggling to find good solar panels just now.
I just bought by ebay auction from Ecoworthy and it is crap and I suspect a number of seller names are the same Chinese people selling the same crap. Great propaganda about quality control etc on their selling pages but not followed up by the product

In the past I've had real quality for good prices but they seem to be missing now
i have just bought 2 solar panels 1 regulator and 2kw inverter £780 and the panels have a25 year warranty they are great marjohn:thumb:

The 100 watt panels described as poly are clearly mono. The seller is handicapping his sales unless the picture is not the actual item. They look good

EDIT in fact looking again the picture is a 1200x540 unit so definately not the item being offered. I would not trust a seller who is using the wrong pictures

These came yesterday undamaged and they are OK with the exception of 2.5mm cable but as I connect it through to larger cable it doesn't really matter

I completed installing 2 panels today with all the 6mm2 solar wiring using MC4 connectors and have been waiting for the sun to come out as the MPPT controller is working but no solar input yet. The digital readout is working having connected to the battery first and no warning lights are on only the green to show its working. Nothing to suggest any incorrect wiring to the panels or to the batteries. The sun came out and still no solar input so back on the roof again! Both panels showing 18 volts on the tester so I'm stuck with poor contacts somewhere amongst the MC4 connectors! What a b***** pain! I bought 2 Y connectors ready made up but made all the other connections myself having bought the special tool for the MC4 connectors. Doesn't seem as if the Y connectors are working as they don't show any power coming through unless the connectors are not sleeving together well!

Anyone got any suggestions? Is this a common problem or just my bad luck?

Probably got polarity wrong somewhere. Its easy to get confused with MC4 connectors. Disconnect at the regulator and check it there.

The female MC4 from the y connectors to the regulator will become the +ve and visa versa

Thanks @Techno! I thought that I had been careful and sleeved the +ve cable with red tape to make the right connection at the regulator. I'll try swapping them around!

If I've got it wrong I'll have to re-do the internal cables as it won't look right with red cable connected to the -ve and vice versa!
