I've just come off the phone with Eva from Fiat Commercial. After explaining my problem she went quiet for 30 seconds (obviously crying with laughter) and then came back to say she would order a New Dipstick and Sheath (no less) for my rig...

Old Sheath needs removal from casing. I ordered a new Sump n Gasket as well just to get this sorted.
I have a garage mechanic who assures me he can assist in replacing my Dipstick and Sheath if I'll let him in my rig!

I once had a car that, unbeknown to me, had been leaking petrol into the oil sump. I had the bonnet up with the engine running, when there was an almighty bang as the petrol fumes in the sump ignited. The dipstick whistled past my ear like a missile and shot a couple of hundred feet across the playing field I was parked next to.

I have a feeling you may be right, so ordered a new SUMP n Gasket as well (Sump rusty anyway and leaking.

You're going to save a fortune on servicing if the bonnet release cable breaks then.
Any bonnet can be opened from outside given time and tools
