Yep - I would be wary on a 3 litre ducato as the clutch is (allegedly) a bit fragile but I have had all my vehicles remapped and declared to the insurers (motorhome insurance is only very rarely increased due to a remap). An easier drive all roundHad mine done 3 years now no problems so far. Much better to drive. But some have had transmission problems.
Hi Jaws what was the millage when your clutch gave way?Mine lasted for about 6 months before it let go

Hi Mark I asked the same question in another thread after a long think and weighing up all the replies I received, for and against and then driving the vehicle back from Wales after purchace I decided not to go with it as I'm not in that much of a hurry to get there and it seemed to drive OK without too many change downs when meeting a hill or an incline, and also there is not much proof out there it can help with fuel consumption, I think it's mostly about drivability rather than fuel economy but I might be wrong, and as my vehicle does roughly 24-25 to the gallon and thats before I load it up, I don't want it to get any worse.Thank you for all the replys. With have to give it more thought I think. Don't really want the expense of a new clutch.
Im thinking about getting our late 2013 2.2 130 bhp Peugeot mapped but it seems quite a few of the later engines with Euro5 engines cannot be remapped.
Am I correct in thinking this engine is in fact a Ford ' Duratorq ' engine ? . . as fitted to some MK3 Mondeos, Jaguars & Land Rovers etc ?
It is mate yes. Its the Ford Duratorq "Puma" engine. Its not the engine that dictates if or not it can be tuned its down to which ECU is fitted. I have yet to find out which ECU is on our van.

Hi there could you please tell me how much a clutch costs and is to fit into your vehicle?Had it changed in January, mechanic said plate didn't look too worn and I saw it too. I do think it's a bit of a weak point on the Ducato, but I don't regret the remap
My friend the cost of clutch replacement depends on many things..Hi there could you please tell me how much a clutch costs and is to fit into your vehicle?

Hi, I was working for an auto parts seller when I purchased my parts so will be a little more than I paid. As @Charlie says don't go for cheap, I used a Valeo 3 piece clutch kit, I did buy a slave cylinder too but have since found out that wasn't needed (not inside the bell housing). £80 for clutch £70 for slave (sachs) £210 for fitting. I got the gearbox oil changed too while it was out.Hi there could you please tell me how much a clutch costs and is to fit into your vehicle?
=CharlieMy friend the cost of clutch replacement depends on many things..
Firstly it a huge mistake to fit anything but top quality components. They should consist of all 3 basic parts being the driven plate the pressure plate and the thrust / release bearing. If there is a guide tube which there more usually is that should also be replaced.
Some vehicles have the slave cylinder ( Hydualic actuated clutches) inside the bell housing and it would be a false economy to not replace that part while the gearbox if off the engine.
I have always favoured LUK clutch parts. Fitted as OE to many decent manufacturers vehicles .
A big factor is the vehicle itself. How hard or easy the job is means many or few labour hours. Then it's down to costs not only in a particular area but also individual garages..
I remap for a living and have mapped both my MHs. Combined mileage of 25k. Never had a problem. If it's done properly you will be fine. My current van has the fiat Ducato 2.3 130bhp engine and I have to say it was very underpowered for the size and weight of the van. Drives completely different and a lot easier to drive now it's got more power.

Hi TonyHi Tony from another Tony as you are an experienced mapper for want of a better word whats your take on fuel consumption on a vehicle after being mapped, not power, fuel consumption, better or worse or just the same?
Many Thanks Tony
You own a Bird and aint got a heavy foot ? Pull the other one LOL !!!!Had my hymer b584 done, bags more power, bags more fuel, bags more cash on a new clutch.
Fuel consumption went from 28 mpg down to 22 mpg, and not through heavy right foot, clutch kept slipping with only 18k on the clock so replaced it £500.
So bad I contacted company who remapped it to replace original mapping and no money returned.
Needless to say my Burstner on the X250 will definitely not be going down that road..
Maybe I was unlucky.
Keith
