I applied for my C1 to stay on my licence in August 2021 - OK, so they 'lost' the first application and I had to apply again in November - but now I have a driving licence again!
For those of you approaching 70 I suggest you apply early - and post the application 'signed for' so you can drive (UK only) under Section 88.

That's great news - freedom again! Good tip too (y)

I applied mid feb and had a cheque from DVLA for £17 on Monday and no covering correspondence at all, I presume as I requested an updated photo on my licence which I read as £17 but perhaps not after all.

Be careful. My wife applied for hers online as soon as she got the notification. Her new licence came promptly, but was exactly the same as her old one. She had applied two weeks early so just got a straight replacement. You are not supposed to apply outside the 90 day before expiry. She re-applied a few weeks later and it came within a week ... less the C1 of course.

The form says £17 if you need a new photo but they are lying, says no charge for over 70 when you look it up on line.

Thank you Lenny HB that has put my mind at rest.

I decided to apply for my C1 renewal for April at the end of November, there is a work-to-rule. It reached the Medical Assessment Dept on 1st December. I rang 2 weeks ago, it was still sitting on a shelf.

Surprise, surprise, it arrived yesterday, dated for 6/4/22. Cause and effect?

Well I’m impressed so far, came in from the garage this morning to a recorded message on the land line from DVLA could I call them back, number and reference on message, Rang and picked up straight away a gentleman asked me to clarify what entitlements I wished to retain, All of them as currently and as requested please, ok fine he stated your licence will be issued shortly fingers crossed.

I have exactly the same situation as you. I know I am going to have to have some sort of medical but no information what so ever.

I applied at the beginning of January for renewal 11th Feb looks like I may be unable to travel abroad for another 2 years:cautious:
That's making a rough calculation and hoping "Vlad The Mad" doesn't go completely off the rails.

And take copies of everything you send them !!

I looked at the 'Section 88' rules and made sure that if necessary I could justify to a magistrate that I satisfied each and every condition in the rules - one cannot just 'assume'...

That's why i kept copies of everything in a folder, just in case, luckily did not need it,
