Due to daughter moving house I have decided to drop SHMBO at daughters to do packing and I would go off on my own for 3 nights to do some photography on the Somerset levels. Booked a pitch at Shapwick only it’s the wrong Shapwick, I’ve booked the one near Blandford forum so rather than cancel, does anyone have suggestions for wildlife sites in Dorset ?

What about following the Stour, exercising your ‘right to roam’ and try and spot an otter or two?

Swanage and the Purbecks, and the New Forest are not that far away.

Sorry to digress a little, but back in my working days a colleague was told to drive to Newport for a days work. You can probably guess what happened.......Got to South wales and couldn't find the street.....phoned the office who told him it was Newport, Shropshire🤬🤣

Reminds me of the woman who had turned up for her flight at Birmingham Airport but there was no flight by the number or at the time shown on her ticket. It turned out she had inadvertently booked a flight departing from Birmingham Alabama! 😡

Ooh - and Brownsea Island.

We had a ship inspector that flew down from London to Dakar in West Africa, he went down to the docks to board a ship.
The Harbour master knew nothing about it.
Back in those days international calls had to be booked, he eventually got hold of the owners.
The ship was in Dhaka in Bangladesh.

American tourist picked up her hire car at Heathrow, set the satnav for Windsor Castle…….ended up at our local pub…….The Windsor Castle……Weston-super-Mare. :ROFLMAO:

She even gave the local paper an interview. 🤷‍♂️

Another well known confusion on is Portland.
You know, the port

Portland on the south coast of the UK
or Portland Maine on the east coast of the USA
or Portland Oregon on the west coast of the USA

Each one is over 3,000 miles as the crow flies from the next, (and a lot further by ship in the case of the USA)

One of those "Dakars" is spelt Dacca. I forget which....

Granada (Spain) vs Grenada (Caribbean) has caused problems with flights for a number of years
one is here

But there was a more recent case of a UK woman on her way to Spain who only realised she was on the wrong continent on arrival.

Dorset Wildlife Trust

I suspect back in the days of Telex, they both were !

(Dhaka, Bangladesh was Dacca, East Pakistan)

I seem to remember it took the Ship Inspector a week to get home as the return flights were only a couple of times a week, and due to the time it took to book calls he missed going back on the plane that had bought him out.
I've no idea who paid for the trip, but I know it was not our company, as we could prove we had passed on the info given accurately (if incorrectly)

I was born in the village of Easington in East Yorkshire close to Spurn Head, mouth of the Humber. Apart for Easington Coliiery in Durham there are five around England. When i say where i was born i usually get the response of those who know of the Durham one but rarely any of the others. If you ever do go the Spurn to see the birds, it being a privately owned peninsular, you will pass the farm where i was born halfway between Easington and Kilnsea on the way to Spurn.

Another good one ,I worked in chandlers Ford Hampshire my mate had a delivery to Crawley unfortunately he went to Sussex when it was meant to be Crawley near Winchester !!!!!

I was in reception in a hotel in Alton, Hampshire, listening to a guest asking them how far it was to the Towers. He wasn’t too pleased when they told him!

There was a report of the fella booked a nice seaside break at St Neots hoping for nice romantic walks along the beach. Instead had a nice view over an industrial estate in Cambridgeshire

I had a Sales Rep. to meet me. Having sent him all the details two weeks before he rang me ten minutes after the arranged meeting time to tell me he couldn't fine the address of the customer. He had traveled to Bangor, Northern Ireland, I was with the customer in Bangor, North Wales.
Oh how we laughed especially when the boss made him refund the air fare and hotel.

Just recently, my brother who drives a refrigerated artic, turned up at a factory in Cupar Angus. When he got there, there was another fridge wagon from his company in the floating bay. When he spoke to the other driver, he said I was told to pick up a load from Cupar. My brother pointed out that this wasn't "Cupar" but "Cupar Angus" He phoned up the office and he was redirected to pick up the other guy's load from Cupar, I think his reaction was heard nearly as far away as that volcano eruption in Tonga

A lorry driver arrived in Cornwall asked the way to st Ives checked his for post code etc wrong st Ives lie needed hunts and he had driven from Liverpool

Had a company car, bought from fleet sales place in Manchester.
Driver looked at paperwork and drove to Cardiff, quick check revealed that was the HO address of the leasing company, I worked in Maidstone, Kent.
Car was still delivered before 9am,I assumed it was fairly well run in by then….

Theres an old story, reportedly true when in the early days of sat nav, a coach driver on a school trip to Hampton Court ended up in Central London next to an alley called Hampton Court

Or St Ives!

I was on a course in Surrey once.

One of the participants looked at the wrong date and drove to York. 🤦‍♀️
