First motorhome May 2021
Not strictly a self build but a renovation, interesting to see an Eastern European motorhome being restored.

hopefully we get to see part 2..
If you watch it on YouTube there are links to further videos. The channel is called Crazy Restoration.

I would love to have the time and space to do something like that.

...oh, and the unlimited funds to do a proper job. Nut and bolt restoration, strip the paint to metal etc (rather than painting over the dirt on the roof :D )

For all of those reasons, I never will - but I would like to....

The only reason it could be saved is that it was well built having a steel framework. The later 508d models are fabulous to see if you ever come across one.

Here we are Toni the next part

Gus, do you know what the make and model is and on what chassis?

No.The base is the pre Mercedes 100 diesel but I can't remember what it was called?

googled & it was either a Auto Union or a DKW but I think it is the latter as the age would be right?

Maybe the chassis cab of one of these, Mercedes L206

That jogged the memory .
It is&was a Hanomag-Henschel. They also did what we now know as a mercedes 508D before merc bought them
I think we're getting warmer, Hanomag F35 perhaps?

On a similar theme. This Peugeot has been parked up for over 10 years in a garden which I regularly cycle past. I don’t have any of the skills or the time but how good would it be to bring something like this back to life. I always thought these Peugeots made rather stylish campervans and possibly more civilised to drive than a Citroen HY.

They are nice when done up. Another I like is the old Renault Estaffette

Once saw a van for sale at a dealers with an interior in similar condition, it didn't look to bad on the outside, was on a merk would have been tempted had i had a garage.

Like with classic cars, its a labour of love, as the amount of money time and effort to restore a "banger", will be twice what its worth.
When I was looking to purchase a Triumph Stag a good while back, it was common to see a for sale add saying, £25k restoration, yours for £8k! Same with other models, its much cheaper to buy one that's ready done. The satisfaction of doing it yourself and doing it right is more what its about.
Personally, the fuel economy, insulation and electronics in a modern van are far superior to vintage, I couldn't be swayed by the cuteness factor or nostalgia bug. But each to their own, if you have the energy and patience to tackle such a project, good for you.

I simply do not have the ability to restore a classic but i do love all classics.
So i bought one that had been restored to almost concourse.
However, if you buy concourse or almost you are on the edge as to do you use the thing or look at it thinking if i use it i'll get it dirty.
I chose to use mine and maintain it to the best of my ability and my man Wayne looks after the mechanicles.
Bertie the blue Jag is my go to classic.
